It's hard to believe but today is our first day of school. As we look ahead to what promises to be an exciting inaugural year, we want to express our deepest thanks to everyone who has helped to build this school with us - you know who you are! We thank you for supporting our efforts to provide all children with a world-class, college prep education and we look forward to keeping you updated on our work this year.
Preparing for the First Day of School.
Last week we hosted an Open House for families and scholars and we had a great time meeting everyone. Here, Kindergarten Teacher Ms. Auger gives the STEP assessment to one of her students at the event.
Our amazing founding team (below) has been hard at work since August 3rd preparing for the start of school. Clickhere to read more about what we've been doing during our summer training.
Our New Home
We're thrilled with our new space and owe a big thank you to the many volunteers who came out to help prepare it for the first day of school. Visit our classrooms on this "virtual tour"!

Name: Amanda Gauthier
Role: Director of Operations & Student Supports
Where were you before Springfield Prep? Before joining Springfield Prep, I taught 7th and 8th grade math in Phoenix, Arizona with Teach for America and for the past two years I worked as the Dean of Operations at Excel Academy Orient Heights in East Boston, MA. Excel is an incredible organization that does amazing things to help educate low income students in the greater Boston area. I feel very lucky to have had the opportunity to learn what it means to do the right thing for kids from such amazing people.
Why did you decide to join the Springfield Prep team? I decided to join the Springfield Prep team because I want to be part of the exciting educational reform efforts in Springfield. I am from Chicopee originally, and went to college at UMass Amherst, so the Western Mass area has a special place in my heart. I'm really excited to move back home and build on the incredible resources of the Western Mass area and help improve the educational opportunities for our students.
Anything else? One of my passions in the educational realm is introducing students to role models within their community, whether it is through informal meetings, reading hour with a professional, or a pen pal program. Let me know if you are interested in being a role model for some Springfield Prep students - we would love to have you!
Thank you for your ongoing support. We hope to see you soon!
