Dear Families and Friends,

This past week marked the start of school for our 270 scholars in grades K-4 and our fourth year providing a college preparatory education to Springfield students.  We're excited to share news and updates for this school year and give you a window into the first days of school at Springfield Prep.  It's an exciting time!

Founder & Executive Director

What's New This Year?

Leadership News

This year, Mr. Spirer will serve in a new Executive Director role, where he will focus on leadership development, strategic planning, and the school's second phase of growth as it adds a middle school.

Jessica Yiannos will be the school's Principal.  Ms. Yiannos, now in her third year at Springfield Prep, has been a longtime teacher and instructional leader.  She is a dedicated teacher and leader with a passion for math instruction, a proven record of leading teams to get results, and a great sense of humor.  Please welcome her when you see her next!

We've moved!

To accommodate our growth to 270 students, we've moved to a new building.  We are now located right on the Springfield/Longmeadow line, on the Springfield JCC Campus.  This will not be our permanent home, but it provides us the space we need to grow, and we're very excited to be here.  Our new building has much more space to accommodate our program, including dedicated space for music, art and PE.  We also have a full playground!  Come visit us at 594 Converse St., Longmeadow.

Growing a Partnership

Our new school building is located on the campus of the Springfield JCC.  The "J" has been an incredible neighbor, welcoming us with warmth, a spirit of collaboration, and sweets!  Our staff has already used the J's ropes course for team building and many of our students will be attending after school programs there. Thank you to the JCC community - we look forward to future collaboration!  And if you're a Springfield Prep family looking for information about JCC programs, visit the J's website for more information.

Grade Level Leadership

Teacher collaboration is at the heart of our work and Grade Level Chairs facilitate this on each grade level team.  Each one of our "GLCs" - Phelipe Johnson, Dana Auger, Shawna Mitchell, Cait Brown, and Brittany McGregor from left to right - are teachers who have had a hand in growing and strengthening our program as we've grown.  With each of them leading their teams, we have a great year ahead.

Proving What's Possible

While MCAS results won't be available until this fall, we can share some highlights from last year's NWEA MAP and ANet assessments.

On MAP...
  • 81% of K-2 scholars scored above the national median in math.
  • 69% of K-1 scholars scored above the national median in reading.
On ANet...
  • 3rd graders ranked 1st among 158 schools taking the test in math, with a 79% average.
  • 2nd graders ranked 6th out of 145 schools in math, with a 77% average.
  • In reading, 2nd graders ranked 10th out of 146 schools and 3rd graders ranked 2nd out of 112 schools.
These results reflect the the incredible dedication of our teachers and scholars.  We look forward to sharing MCAS results when they are available.
