Welcome to our 1st Proper Newsletter!
Welcome to the first Newsletter of the Waveney Valley Community Archaeology Group. We plan to send out a Newsletter once a month, and keep you up-to-date with all things archaeological in the Waveney Valley. If you have any news, events or book reviews you would like to share on the website and in the next edition, please email us:

Our Next Meeting
The next meeting will be on 9th July at 7.00pm at:
The Pennoyer Centre, Station Road
Pulham St Mary
Norfolk IP21 4QT
www.pennoyers.org.uk
The guest speaker will be Caroline Davison, Historic Environment Consultant, who will explain all the exciting things happening with the
St.Benet's Abbey Project at Holme in the Broadlands of East Norfolk. This will be followed by an update on the group, our future plans and activities, and group news from the Pathways and Medieval Graffiti projects - please come and join us!
(The Pennoyer Centre bar will also open for drinks)
Medieval Graffiti Training
Our training day with the Norfolk Medieval Graffiti Project will be held on Saturday 22nd June. You can choose either to attend a session at
Bressingham Church in the west of the Valley from 10.30am - 12.30am
OR at
Kirby Cane Church in the east of the Valley from 1.00pm to 3.00pm.
Please let us know which session you would like to attend ASAP. For those of you that missed Matthew's talk at the previous WVCAG meeting, or if you simply want to refresh your memory, you can find full details of the project on the NMGS website.

Membership
At the second WVCAG meeting, a show of hands showed almost unanimous support for charging a WVCAG membership fee. After much debate the fees have been set at the following rates:
£20 full membership or £10 concessions. Concessions are for over 65's, those in full-time education and those on benefits.
At the moment we can accept payment by cheques or POs, although we will be able to take electronic payments soon.
A membership form is
attached here and is also available on the website to download
here.
Please return your forms and membership fees as soon as possible - it saves us chasing you for subs!
The membership fee has been kept as low as possible to cover the basics, such as our group liability insurance, speakers expenses and admin costs.
This does mean we will continue to ask for small contributions for the hire of halls for meetings etc. and that additional events and activities will be chargeable if necessary, but we aim to keep costs as low as humanly possible.
Benefits of Membership
Affiliation to the Council for British Archaeology - access to national conferences, workshops and
British Archaeology magazine
Training events and a wide range of activities - not just digging - all insured and safety checked
Opportunity to undertake original research and help organise your own projects
Access to wide range of skills and knowledge within and outside group
Meet new friends, learn new skills - and maybe enjoy a beer or two!
We Need Your Help!
Local Representatives
As we are quite a diverse group geographically, it would be nice to have some local contacts that can help publicise WVCAG in local shops, village halls, parish newsletters etc, and can keep an ear to the group for potential local links and future projects.
Fundraisers
Are there any members with fundraising experience who would like to take on the role of fundraiser for the group? We'd like some help raising money to pay for equipment, training sessions and activities and to support the Young Archaeologist's Club as it grows. Ideally, we'd like someone with experience of dealing with companies and organisations for donations.
Anyone who is interested please get in touch, with a brief outline of your fundraising experience to date.
August Social Event
We are hoping to have a summer party for members with a special guest speaker and some kind of food/drink provided, possibly on the second weekend in August.
If anyone can help in any way, especially with a location or catering, please get in touch!
Bungay St. Mary's Church - 20th July
WVCAG will be having a stand at the Archaeology Afternoon at St Mary’s Church from 2pm - 5pm as part of the Bungay Town Festival.
We are looking for volunteers to 'mind the shop', talk to members of the public, and help to look after the stand.
Please get in touch if you could help out - tea and cake provided
