Improv Awareness has two goals: one, to celebrate improvisation as a form of expression. And two, raise funds to bring more improv to Ottawa this summer.

Money raised on April 20th will go directly into bringing you three weeks of great improv comedy this summer. My Summer Crush hits Ottawa in August 2013.

Improv Awareness is a full day of programming with something for the whole family: we kick things off at noon with an all ages introductory level improv workshop. Following that, weâ€™ll be showing â€œIn The Momentâ€ on the big screen.

Stop by in the afternoon and visit our displays highlighting some of the great people and moments in improvisation. Build a prop that will be used in our evening show, have an improvised portrait done, and check out our interactive exhibits.

Beginning at 3pm, try out your favourite improv game by playing a round of improvaoke with our house team of improvisers. Donâ€™t forget to bring an object from home - bring it to our improv antiques roadshow experts and they can tell you a story about your object.

Weâ€™ll end with an evening performance complete with cash bar.

Price of admission for the entire event is $25 per person or $50 per family,

Intro Workshop

Every wanted to try improvising? Crush shows you the ropes with a fun workshop for beginners (and those looking to brush up on the basics) to kick off the day at noon. Bring your imagination and be ready to play.

Movie Screening

"In the Moment"

A documentary about the Canadian Improv Games by Sandra Chwialkowska, the stoy's told from the candid perspectives of the kids themselves. At practices and team sleepovers, the film captures what it's like to be a teenager today.

Though the focus of the film is improv, the National Tournament becomes a dramatic backdrop for the bigger story about modern kids and their families.

Improv Antiques Roadshow

4pm

Bring any object to our panel of improv experts, and they will tell you a story about that object. Donâ€™t have any objects with you? Make one at our prop station!

We made a fun video from our build day. See what* goes into creating exhibits about improv!

Improvised Portraits by
Joel Garrow

2pm:

Obtain a hand drawn improvised portrait while you pose in a pre-made frame. Joel Garrow is our visual arts improviser, and heâ€™ll pen your portrait while a timer counts down.

Improvaoke

3pm

Choose a game from the improvaoke book and when itâ€™s your turn, jump on stage to play it with a select cast of improvisers. Each game has a description of how it is played and how many players are required.

Crush Improv Show

7:30pm

Watch Crush and friends play some improvaoke and perform scenes with props made that afternoon
