Congratulations Tim!

Wholehearted congratulations to Tim McCowan, WellSpring Reconciliation Formation Coordinator, on receiving an Order of Australia (OAM) award for his service to the community through interfaith programs.

Tim’s work as Director of Building Bridges through Interfaith Dialogue in Schools and as Facilitator for Healing Steps is a wonderful contribution to the wider community and to WellSpring.

Building Bridges aims to build trust, respect and interfaith understanding between students from different religions, cultures and social backgrounds while the Healing Steps program assists refugees and others who have faced trauma to share their stories and take steps towards healing and recovery.

Well done Tim!!

Forthcoming WellSpring Events

  • Let's Talk...
    Tuesday 11 February, 1 to 2.30pm

An opportunity for you to lead a conversation on a topic that you’re passionate about and that fits with WellSpring’s vision, ‘Deepening in God, living out love’.
The first session will be led by Alex Safran on ‘The Name of God’ on Tuesday 11 February, 1 to 2.30pm.

    Alex writes:

It was some 60 years ago; I was still a boy in short pants when I stayed with a Christian family for a few weeks. On Sunday the parents went to church and I went with their children to Sunday School.
And here I learnt that the God of the New Testament was kind and loving while the God of the Old Testament was harsh and vengeful. And I thought, “So, this is what they teach in Christian Sunday School, ‘we, the Christians, have the good God, while they, the Jews, have the nasty God’”.
It took me 50 years to understand what I had first heard that day in that Sunday School, and I would like to share my journey with my fellow pilgrims at WellSpring...

WellSpring will provide coffee, cake and venue; you provide the conversation!

Cost: $10 (payable on the day).
  • Circles of Trust
(Facilitators: Chris Page and Marg Loftus)
    Wednesday 19 February, 10am to 12.30pm

A circle of trust (based on Parker Palmer’s bestseller, A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey toward the Undivided Life) is a place to explore one’s inner life with others through readings, poems, symbols, story and conversation. It is a non-religious yet deeply spiritual
approach to identifying our ‘inner landscape’.

Cost: $20 per session (paid through WellSpring office at each session).
  • Nurturing Mindfulness for Children
    (Facilitator: Kristen Hobby)
    Thursday 20 February, 10am to 12.30pm (0-5 year olds)
    Saturday 15 March, 10am to 12.30pm (5-11 year olds)

Parents are invited to bring along their preschoolers (0-5 year olds) in February, or primary aged children (5-11 year olds) in March, to explore together ways to nurture mindfulness and contemplation in young children.

This practical, hands-on workshop will explore body relaxation, meditation, retreats, contemplation and nature-gazing.

Cost: $36 (members); $40 (non-members) per session. Book online here.
  • Quiet Day
    (Facilitator: George Warren)
    Friday 21 February, 10am to 3pm

Quiet Days provide space for reflection and attentiveness to God’s Spirit in company with others. They are spent mostly in silence. The program may include scripture, meditation, communion, silent prayer together and alone.

Cost: $36 (members); $40 (non-members) per session. Book online here.
  • Walking the Way
    (Facilitator: Anna Mansbridge)
    Monday 24 February, 10.30am to 1pm

The first in a series of workshops in the way of deepening life’s journey by being mindful of the inner and outer dimensions of walking meditation, the labyrinth and pilgrimage.

Other workshops will be held in June and September.

Cost: $36 (members); $40 (non-members) per session. Book online here.

Other Special Events

  • Surrender Conference
    14-16 March (Belgrave Heights)
    WellSpring is going to Surrender!

Over 1,000 people will be gathering at Belgrave Heights on the weekend of 14-16 March 2014 to attend the Surrender Conference. WellSpring has been invited to host a booth in the Baptist Union of Victoria's tent along with other BUV groups.

The SURRENDER conference is unique in Australia as the largest gathering of its kind, focusing on social justice, radical discipleship and incarnational mission. There is a place for contemplative prayer during the weekend so we have a great opportunity to be part of this and share the theme of 'Walk Alongside'.
Let Ann know if you can spend some time at WellSpring's booth during the weekend.
