Spiritual Directors' Professional Development session
The Transfiguration and Spiritual Direction
Wednesday 7 August, 10am to 1pm (Facilitator: John Stewart)
On the day before this session, Christians remember the Transfiguration of Jesus.
This session will look at the gospel accounts of this event, its impact on the disciples, and its importance for our ministry of spiritual direction.
Cost: $35. Book online now.
Grappling with God after Childhood Sexual Abuse
(Facilitator: Monique Lisbon)
Mondays: 12, 19 and 26 August, 7 to 9.30pm
(Closed Group of three sessions)
Surviving childhood sexual abuse can take a lasting toll on relationships with ourselves, others and God. This series will begin with the sharing of (non-explicit) anecdotes, music and reflections by the facilitator (in DVD form). Then, in a safe and structured closed small group context, we will discuss healthy ways of rethinking our relationships with ourselves, others and God. NB: This is not a therapy group, and the focus is on exploring general dynamics and themes of healing, rather than sharing details of abusive experiences.
Cost: $90 for three sessions. Book online now.
(NB: Monique Lisbon is happy to respond to any questions or concerns about this course. Please feel free to contact her by email to discuss your potential attendance.)
Awareness and Contemplation through Movement
(Facilitator: Jenny Guild)
Monday 19 August, 10am to 12.30pm
This workshop will explore more deeply the connectedness of our bodies and ourselves in relation to the world and our incarnate God. We will draw on techniques from the Feldenkrais method of Awareness through Movement to help us connect with our contemplative prayer stance.
Cost: $20. Book online now.
(Facilitators: Susan Campbell and Keren McClelland)
Friday 16 August, 10am to 12noon
A facilitated discussion group for parents of young children.
An opportunity for thoughtful and uninterrupted conversations around attentive parenting, spirituality and raising resilient children.
Cost: $35. Book online now.
Circles of Trust
(Facilitators: Chris Page and Margaret Loftus)
Wednesday 21 August, 10am to 12noon
A ‘circle of trust’, based on Parker Palmer’s 'A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey toward the Undivided Life', is a place to explore one’s inner life with others through readings, poems, symbols, story and conversation. Drawn from ancient and contemporary wisdom it is a non-religious yet deeply spiritual approach to identifying our ‘inner landscape’. Throughout the year our outer landscape, such as ocean, mountain, desert, forest and the seasons will be used as metaphors and images of our inner life.
All welcome. Cost: $20 (pay on day).
