A Contemplative Circle: Reflecting on our Inner Life (drawing on Parker Palmer’s bestseller, 'A Hidden Wholeness: The Journey toward the Undivided Life') is a place to explore one’s inner life with others through readings, poems, symbols, story and conversation.

Drawn from ancient and contemporary wisdom, it is a deeply spiritual approach to identifying our ‘inner landscape’.

Throughout the year our outer landscape, such as ocean, mountain, desert, forest and the seasons will be used as metaphors and images of our inner life.

All welcome.

Cost: $28 (full); $22.50 (members/concession) per session.

An Exploration of the Place of Visual Art in Spiritual Direction
Thursday 20 October, 10am to 3pm

After a brief introduction there will be opportunity during the day for shared conversation, your questions, and hands on contemplative prayerful visual art exercises. This has little relationship to how creative you feel you are! If you can hold a pencil that is enough.

You may already have specific questions you would like discussed. It would be most helpful to send them to Mary well before October.

All qualified spiritual directors (including those trained in centres other than WellSpring), as well as WellSpring students in the Art of Spiritual Direction, are welcome to attend.

Cost: $60 (full) / $54 (members/concession)

The Art of Contemplative Practice and
The Art of Spiritual Direction 2017

These two WellSpring courses are recognised by the University of Divinity – and the units may earn credit towards the Graduate Diploma of Spiritual Direction or Spirituality and the Master of Arts (Spiritual Direction/Spirituality). FEE-Help may be available for course fees, for those who enrol through the University of Divinity.

Alternatively, the courses can be audited for those who do not wish to obtain academic credit.

Building Bridges Consultant Coordinator

You may know that Tim McCowan has retired from the role of Building Bridges Director after 14 years in the role. We farewelled Tim at the recent Presentation Night with these words:

“Tim, you have given generously of your wisdom, your time and energy, and your commitment to strong, life giving relationships for people. You have practised your belief in the dignity and value of each person, encouraging others to join you in respectful conversation which helps us recognise ourselves in the lives of others. Thank you. I wonder how many lives have been touched, and enriched by Building Bridges? Students, facilitators, teachers, families, friends, over 14 years in tens of schools – and now Perth - thousands and thousands of people. The vision of simple, shared conversation is gracefully simple, yet profoundly effective. You have steadfastly held this vision and brought others into its welcoming sphere. And a comment from a grateful participant: ‘Tim, I don't think you will ever know how much you have enriched my life and the lives of so many others. Your vision led so many to choose the path of understanding and love over fear and for that we are so grateful.’”

We are delighted to announce that Newton Daddow will work with the Building Bridges community as a consultant coordinator until the 2017 Presentation Night.

Newton, a Baptist minister, is currently senior chaplain at the Swinburne University of Technology with responsibility for the Swinburne Multi-Faith Facility. He is involved in a number of interfaith networks, including the Council of Christians and Jews, Victoria; the Jewish Christian Muslim Association and a member of the Baptist World Alliance on Inter Faith Relations.

This is an exciting appointment as we believe Newton brings just the right mix of interfaith experience and networks, a passion for Building Bridges, some secondary school teaching experience, and the ability to work with people in developing programs. Newton will ensure the Building Bridges program continues to operate in its current format and focus on developing connections within the Building Bridges community. He will also respond to any new opportunities which might emerge in the next twelve months.

We warmly welcome Newton to this role.

Opportunities for 2017 at WellSpring

Hosting Events

This year, April Blackwell has offered the wonderful gift of hosting the Professional Development sessions. Many people have noted the difference this has made to our welcome and hospitality throughout the day – thank you April!

Believing in the value of this practice, we want to continue it in 2017, and expand it to cover all the workshops we offer, as well as the Professional Development sessions. It would be great to have a team of people who would enjoy doing this on a voluntary basis, both to cover April when she is away, and to care for those who attend other events.

The role involves checking that all is in readiness for the event, setting up and cleaning up on the day (with assistance), introducing the facilitator, and being available during the day for those attending. The host is welcome to participate in the event at no cost.

If this role interests you, please contact Ann at ann.lock@wellspringcentre.org.au or on 0410 556 436.

WellSpring Reception

We all know how good it feels to be greeted by a real, live person at WellSpring rather than a locked door!

At the moment we have some gaps in the Reception office roster which it would be great to fill for the remainder of this year, as well as into 2017. Most people do a half day a week or fortnight, but this could be less often, say monthly.

At the moment there are vacancies on some Thursday mornings, and Friday afternoons, and to cover absences.

The main activities, after welcoming people, are to respond to enquiries, take bookings and payments, and other various office jobs as required.

We would love to hear from you if this is something you would like to be part of. Contact Ann at ann.lock@wellspringcentre.org.au or on 0410 556 436.

WellSpring is grateful to Fiona Pfennigwerth for granting us permission to use her beautiful illustrations of Australian nature in our advertising. Fiona's books, The Scrolls Illuminated and The Gospel according to John Illuminated are available through WellSpring.
