Farewell to two WellSpring Friends

WellSpring is saddened by the recent passing of two good friends, each of whom was very supportive of our ministry and the wider communities of spiritual direction and formation in Melbourne over many years.

Rev. Ron Ham, 20 April 1929 – 12 September 2015

Ron Ham was a much-loved founding member of WellSpring, whose life and ministry touched many.

Ron's first placement as an ordained minister was in 1957 at Collins Street Baptist Church, with calls to various other communities over several decades, including Ashburton Baptist Church in both 1966 and again in the late 1990s. He was also an influential presence in the ministries of several organisations such as the Urban Mission Unit (now known as 'Urban Seed'), the Whitley College Council, and WellSpring Centre.

As Chair of the first WellSpring Board, Ron led the prayer of dedication at the official opening of WellSpring Centre on 16 February 1996, which concluded:

God our Lord,
who gave us Jesus Christ
and sent to us the Holy Spirit,
May all who participate
in the life of WellSpring
delight in your creativity,
experience the quenching
of their thirst,
the cleansing of their lives,
the healing of their brokenness
and go from here
to offer wholeness
to the world
which you love so passionately.

Loved husband of Jan; proud father of Lisa and Anthony and their partners Greg and Marina; adoring grandfather of Alexandra, Greta, Carlota and Valentina; friend and brother of Hazel. His brother Jack and sister Margaret are both deceased.

Dr Patrick Wright, 2 November 1942 – 29 August 2015

In 1997-98, Patrick he undertook the Siloam program at Heart of Life Spirituality Centre, completing the Certificate in Spiritual Direction (Siloam 1998).

He met Roslyn (van Dalen) who was on the staff, and they married in 2000. Patrick was a Catholic who happily supported Roslyn in her ongoing spirituality studies and work, and then her training and ordination as Baptist Minister. Many at WellSpring would know Roslyn from her facilitation of spiritual direction professional development sessions and other WellSpring workshops.

Patrick was a Member of Australian Ecumenical Council for Spiritual Direction (AECSD) from 2010 to 2014, helping to organise the National Gathering in 2010 and serving as Treasurer.

Beloved husband to Roslyn for 15 years (and previously to Wendy for 20 years), proud father of Denis and Barbara (Be), besotted / doting grand-dadulus to Rebecca, Raquel, Jasmine, Tiana and Merissa, step-father to Hannah and Milla, brother to Rosemary, Tony, Nicholas, Brenda and Stephen.
