Give it up for the Earth!

As we approach the season of Lent, many Christians will begin to consider how they are going to mark their Lenten journey. Some will choose to give up chocolate or coffee, while others might take a break from social media.

At CPJ, we are launching Give it up for the Earth!, a faith-in-action campaign that will see thousands of Canadians across the country taking action to reduce personal or household greenhouse gas emissions. Actions might include refusing single-use or over-packaged items, reducing electricity usage, or divesting from fossil fuels.

The campaign also includes a postcard addressed to Catherine McKenna, the Minister of the Environment and Climate Change. It calls on the government to also Give it up for the Earth! by ending all subsidies to the fossil fuel industry. We see these subsidies as incompatible with moving towards Canada's climate commitments. The postcards will be delivered to Minister McKenna to show her that Canadian Christians support more ambitious action to address climate change.

If you would like your community to be involved in this important initiative, please visit our website to register, order materials, and find resources that will help you animate the Give it up for the Earth! campaign in your community!

Flourishing of Life for All

How are we called to be a prophetic voice for action on climate change?

The Mary Ward Centre (70 St. Mary St.) | Toronto
7:30pm – 9:00pm | Wednesday, February 7, 2018

CPJ and JEM (Joint Ecological Ministry) are excited to host Flourishing of Life for All, a gathering with Heather Eaton. Together, we will reflect on the power and responsibility of religious communities to be a prophetic voice for action on climate change.

Karri Munn-Venn, CPJ's senior policy analyst, will also be there with materials for our Give it up for the Earth! campaign so that attendees will be able to participate in the campaign right away!
