September 1 is the the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation.

On this day, we lay our grief and our fears before God.
For it is in God that we have hope and we have faith.
We pray for grace and guidance as we continue to work for
love, justice, and the flourishing of all creation. Amen

Season of Creation &
the Global Week of Climate Action!

Orthodox and Roman Catholic traditions celebrate the World Day of Prayer for the Care of Creation on September 1. Many Christian traditions in Canada also mark the Season of Creation from September 1 to October 4.

These invitations to pause, reflect, and contemplate our relationship with the created world are  generating a broader response as the intensity and urgency of the global climate crisis becomes more apparent. Climate change is an issue that reaches to the core of who we are as people of faith and how we are to live in God’s world. To mark these occasions, CPJ offers a Prayer for Creation.

Faith leaders have taken note. So too has the UN Secretary-General, who is convening world leaders for a special UN Climate Change Summit on September 23. This event is galvanizing a response from environmental advocates, social justice activists, trade unionists, people of faith, and many others. The global youth movement is leading the way as young people are concerned for their future and the future of the Earth.

#FridaysForFuture coordinated mass global mobilizations earlier this year and have more planned for September, calling on national governments to adopt policies that will provide a safe pathway to well below the Paris temperature target of 2 C.

As communities of faith, we understand the value of coming together to pray and work for a better world. People of all ages are invited to participate in the Global Week of Climate Action, September 20 to September 27, 2019. It is important that we all come together during this critical time. Please join our cross-Canada prayer chain, Prayers for Creation.
