Edge Orientation and Debriefs

The summer has flown by as we have stayed very busy with all things EDGE! Orientation in the beginning of June was a fantastic time. 66 Edgers came to Florida to bond together as teams, as well as attend important sessions on team conflict, team building, the theology of suffering, importance of prayer, and many other sessions. The kids and I were able to join Scott at orientation this year, which was wonderful! I was able to experience everything firsthand and see all of the hard work the Edge team put into making orientation happen as seamlessly as it did. I also had the opportunity to invest in the team of 6 girls that were headed to South Sudan. It was a very life giving time for me.
As all of the teams returned to the US, a 4 day time of debriefing was held at Pioneers. It is often said that you don’t realize how much you needed debriefing until after you’ve been debriefed! It was a time of reflection for the Edgers, both of what God did in their own lives this summer as well as where He is directing them in the future. For some, it was a time of processing some of the extremely difficult things that happened this summer and talking things through with people who understand. It was a time of praising God for all He has done and all He will continue to do. It is inevitably an encouraging time for us, even with the difficulties, to help these students process and hear how they are growing closer to God. At the end of this Edge year, 85% of the Edgers expressed that they believed that God was directing them towards long-term overseas service and some are already in the process of joining Pioneers. Praise God for that!!
2015 Edge Orientation

In the words of two Edgers...

About orientation,
It was a stretching week for me personally. Through the teachings and team discussion time, the Lord taught me several things. I had a new revelation of the depths of my own sinfulness and utter inability to muster up any righteousness on my own. My righteousness is wholly dependent on Christ. It was as if the Lord was teaching me the gospel all over again before I left to take it to others...
And about debrief,
Debrief was more than just spending a few days in Orlando before I went back home. It was a way for me to stop to process and prepare for what was to come when I went back to life at home. It revealed to me how things I experienced were affecting me in ways I did not see. It also helped me learn how to lovingly articulate to people what I experienced overseas. My debrief time in Orlando was instrumental for me and I'm beyond thankful for it.

Family News
Liam just started walking this month! It’s a whole new world and so much fun. Liam loves being on the go, wearing shoes, playing pretend with cups and spoons and has just started bringing us books to read to him. His smile and his curls can be dangerously cute.

Layla can usually be found in her own little imaginary world, and it’s so fun! We hear her talking to her toys and stuffed animals all the time. Her newest ‘game’ is to pretend the four of us are something different every day – everything from animals to inanimate objects. We have been camels, monkeys, moose, puppy dogs, blades of grass and muffins, just to name a few!

And the newest member of our family is a little fur ball named Theo. He’s been a great addition to this dog loving family!
As always, we thank you for your prayers and support of the ministry God has us in! It has been an exciting summer!

With love,
Scott, Ali, Layla and Liam
