December 2014

We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, celebrating all the blessings the Lord has given to you – most of all His Son, Jesus our Savior. As we enter into this season of celebrating Jesus’ birth, we hope you can take time to reflect on the One whom we are celebrating. Scott and I have started going through a family advent book each evening with Layla and Liam to help us focus more on Jesus. It is our first time doing something like this and I think we will continue for years to come!

In this newsletter, we want to answer a few questions that many of you have been asking us when we talk to you:

#1 – When will you be returning overseas?
We don't know when we will be returning overseas, but continue to pray that we will be obedient to how the Lord is leading us as a family. When we first returned home, we weren’t sure we would ever be ready to return overseas again, even though that was still our desire deep down. But now, a year and a half later, we really miss living overseas and being actively involved in that type of ministry. Our hearts want to move back overseas, but we know that our minds are not yet ready. Our last term took a toll on our stress levels and our ability to handle stress and we haven’t fully recovered from that yet. Lord willing, we will be overseas again in the future, but for now we are living fully in the role that God has given us with the Edge. We still want to reach the unreached and disciple young believers and have been able to do that strategically through the Edge while waiting for an opportunity to be overseas. Our life has been a grand adventure so far, and we will continue to wait until God tells us to move.

#2 – Do you keep in touch with anyone in Ikotos?
Yes! And when we get to have phone calls with them, it is the highlight of our week! We have kept in touch with Pastor Bosco and Simon Lojana. Bosco reports that the church Ikotos is doing very well. I'm sure many of you can share our joy in hearing that statement. After all that went on there in 2012 and 2013, we are so happy to hear that the church is growing again. Lojana has finished secondary school and will be taking his leaving examinations in January. The leaving exams have been postponed because of fighting elsewhere in South Sudan. He still desires to become a pastor and we are so happy to be able to walk down this road with him, even if it is from afar.

At the Pioneers Christmas Party!
Layla and Liam love playing together. Layla loves making Liam laugh and Liam smiles whenever Layla is around.
Family News

The beginning of the Edge year has started off very well! Scott has traveled to Southern California, Lynchburg, Virginia, and Spokane, Washington. On each trip he was able to make good connections with college students and has already interviewed several for the trips next summer. Right now there are 25 teams heading to 21 countries. His days consist of figuring out the logistics for the trips next year and connecting with a lot of the students and helping them along their journey of understanding what long-term missions looks like. Please pray that the Lord raises up the right people to go and that He will use them to bring glory to His name from the nations.

Layla, Liam and I were blessed to be able to go on the trip to Spokane and spend the week with family. We had a great time having four kids under the age of three in the house! Layla's imagination continues to grow, and it is fun to watch her learn and explore. Liam now has his first two teeth and has begun to roll over and sit up. He's doing fantastic for a preemie of his age. We are so grateful!

I am doing well too, though I still feel like I am adjusting to life as a mom. Maybe that's how it always will be! I will potentially have the opportunity to “coach” or disciple some of the Edge girls who are going on a trip to Yei, South Sudan this summer. I feel both nervous and excited about the prospect of helping to prepare these girls mentally, spiritually, and from a firsthand experience.
Enjoying time with cousins in Spokane!

PA Visit

We are planning a 3 week visit to PA in February! Scott will be recruiting at Lancaster Bible College February 8-13, and then we will extend our stay until the 28th. We are hoping to see a lot of you who live there while we are in town! We are free for breakfasts, lunches and dinners – please let us know if you’d like to get together! We will be available to get together February 15-28. We hope to hear from you!!
May we always remember Jesus, our Savior, the tiny baby born in Bethlehem.

Merry Christmas!!

Scott, Ali, Layla and Liam
