December 2015
We hope you all had a wonderful Thanksgiving, spending time with family and friends and reflecting on all we have to be thankful for. There are so many things! We enjoyed our holiday with a number of Scott’s family who were in town for the week. It was great seeing them all again!
Edge News

Our time at Moody Spokane and visiting family was really great. I was able to lead a breakout session on ‘Men in Missions,’ sharing with about 40 students the Biblical basis for missions and some of the obstacles that are keeping men from committing to serving God overseas. The session led to some really great follow-up conversations with a couple of the guys that were wrestling with thoughts and questions. The Lord was already doing something in their hearts and I had the privilege to be there to offer encouragement and prayer. In addition to the conference, we had a great time with family and connecting with friends that we knew from our time in East Africa.

As I continue to settle into the role of Edge Director, I remain excited about the possibilities and challenges of this job. We have about 26 teams that we will send out in June 2016 and have already started interviewing, placing Edgers on teams, and coaching them in the process of support raising and preparing for their time overseas. Please pray with us that the Lord would raise up the right individuals to fill these teams. In light of the attacks in Paris and the growing uncertainty in the world, our task to raise up the next generation of goers becomes increasingly difficult and necessary. Across the world right now, there are incredible opportunities for the advancement of the Gospel.

It's strawberry season in FL! We picked and enjoyed mouthfuls of strawberries this week!

Urbana

I (Ali) have been surprised as I have been talking to friends about the upcoming Urbana conference how so many have never heard of it! Urbana is a very large student missions conference – over 16,000 will attend this year. It is located in St. Louis, MO from December 27-31. Scott and I will both be going, along with about 35 others representing Pioneers to recruit and talk with attendees at the conference. For those of you who haven’t heard about Urbana, click HERE.

This is a mostly exciting and somewhat nerve-wracking thing for me. I have always wanted to attend Urbana, so it’s a dream come true! It will be my first recruiting trip, which is fun and also intimidating. I’m quite introverted and the whole concept of recruiting is a bit daunting – talking to people I don’t know for 5 days in a row. But getting to share our experience on the field and with Pioneers as an organization with other people is something I love to do, so it’s very exciting too!

We would ask for your prayers during the Urbana week:
*for energy and stamina to invest in good conversations throughout the week
*for me to rest in what I do know and not worry about what I don’t, when talking with attendees
*for our kids (and their aunt and uncle who are staying with them!) as they are home without us – this will be the longest time we have been away from them

Layla Update

I have to tell you, it was such a blessing how many of you followed up with us to find out how Layla has been doing and sleeping. We have a small update on her: We had her hemoglobin tested and she is not anemic, so that is a praise! As far as sleep, we have recorded her sleeping for a few nights and nothing seems overly out of the norm – she tosses and turns all night long, but doesn’t seem to be awake for long periods of time. We have reintroduced naps a few days a week and have been keeping a close eye on her. At her 4 year check-up in January (how is she 4?!), we will talk again with her doctor about our observances the past few months. Please continue to pray for good, restful sleep for her.
Merry Christmas, Florida style!

PLEASE PRAY

*Please also pray for new teammates for Scott on the Edge Team. Right now it looks like both of his teammates may be moving on come summertime, leaving him alone on the team. We are praying for God to provide the right replacements! This is a very big prayer request for us right now.
Merry Christmas!!

We want to wish you a very Merry Christmas, from our family to yours. While there may not be much peace on earth in this day and age we live in, we can rest in the fact that JESUS is our peace. JESUS is our hope. JESUS is our security. He is the King above all Kings and the Lord above all Lords. Let us rest in HIM this holiday season, and the coming year.
With love,
Scott, Ali, Layla and Liam
