Making history

Documentary filmmaker Ken Burns, right, encouraged graduates to discover the wisdom of history and understand how it shapes their lives. Stanford’s 125th Commencement also was a farewell for outgoing President John Hennessy, who began the ceremony with a moment of silence for victims of sexual violence and of Sunday morning’s mass shooting in Orlando, Florida.

'Let your passion lead you'

Baccalaureate speaker the Most Rev. Dr. Katharine Jefferts Schori told graduates that the key to lifelong joy is devoting oneself to activities worthy of their full energies.

Thanks for the memories

With speeches, sermons, songs and smiles, festooned mortar boards and crazy costumes, the Stanford community's creativity was on display Sunday as it savored the Class of 2016's farewell to the Farm. See the slideshow.

A lesson in perseverance

Rather than focusing on his many scientific successes, Peter Kim, a professor of biochemistry known for his innovative work in developing and shepherding drugs to market, chose to tell the School of Medicine’s graduating class about one of his key failures.

Campus Announcements

ID Card Office: The ID Card Office has temporarily moved to the Student Services Center while the north wing of Tresidder Memorial Union undergoes construction. The Student Services Center is in the same building and on the same floor, just at the end overlooking the Lagunita parking lot. Hours of operation for the office will be 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during this time.
