Comfort me with squash.
October, we love you. We'll take a guess and say that 85% of people in Michigan cite the tenth month of the year as their favorite, and we can see why: the markets are stocked with tons of winter squash and apple varieties and Halloween is right around the corner. How about a pop-up haunted house in #futuresisterpie?

Sit back with a glass of cider and enjoy reading this month's menu, news, updates, and more!
THANKSGIVING COUNTDOWN
Many of you have been asking about pre-ordering for the biggest pie holiday of the year. Here are the basic facts you need to know: online pre-ordering opens on Monday, November 3. There will be 100 pies available for pre-order and an additional 50 pies sold at Parker Street Market, so we recommend ordering early!

EASTERN MARKET
Only FOUR more weeks of the season to come visit us at Eastern Market! Come say hi before the Tuesday Market shuts down for the winter season. We'll be stocking our table with October's menu including plenty of savory hand pies (like swiss chard pesto & potato!), breakfast pastries, and cookies.

HEY: Buy some Michigan produce and challenge Lisa to improvise a recipe for you to try at home!
WE HAD A BLOCK PARTY!
During the Detroit Design Festival, we set up a big block party with our neighbors at Parker Street Market. Thanks to everyone who came by for pie, Risky Biscuits, and other great local fare!

Stay tuned for more West Village events coming soon. We are so excited to be opening up in such a fantastic neighborhood!
#futuresisterpie UPDATE
We are making lots of progress on our new bakery home, and hoping for an early spring opening. Right now we're in the schematic design phase, which means our designers at Laavu Studio are firming up our floorplan designs and we're bringing in the engineers. In the meantime, we're shopping for restaurant equipment and continuing to clean/demo the space. Another work day is coming soon! Sign up by e-mailing lisa@sisterpie.com.

WHOA!
We are thrilled to be included on a recent BuzzFeed list - "12 Businesses That Are Putting Detroit on the Map," especially alongside a crew of other unique entrepreneurs!

We've gotten some other good press in the last month too:

OCTOBER MENU, COMING RIGHT UP!
Our pies are available in two sizes: a nine-inch feeds 6-8 people and a six-inch feeds 2. Cookies are sold by the dozen. Scroll down to see the menu!

To get your hands on pie, simply visit our online pie shop, or travel to:
The Cardamom Tahini Squash pie is downright dreamy. A layer of tahini-walnut-brown sugar paste is spread generously on the bottom of the crust. Then we top that with the most autumnal-tasting pie filling around: First we make our own purée with a variety of winter squash - buttercup, sweet dumpling, and pumpkin. That gets mixed with heavy cream that's been steeped with cardamom pods, brown sugar, eggs, etc. The resulting pie is silky-smooth, complex in flavor, and absolutely perfect with a cup of coffee and a dollop of lightly sweetened whipped cream.

Take a step back in Sister Pie history with the Apple Cheddar Rye pie, one of our first Thanksgiving flavors when we launched in 2012. We use Hampshire Farms rye flour and sharp white cheddar in the crust to compliment the sweet-tart flavor of local Michigan apples. The combination of fruit and cheese dates back to ancient times, but the specific combination of apple + cheddar is a New England tradition. Once you try it, you may never go back.

The Salted Maple pie is Sister Pie's signature flavor, as it's something we can make year-round...and everybody loves it. Sister Pie's signature flavor. Chock-full of creamy Grade B maple syrup filling and topped with flaky Maldon sea salt, this pie is simplicity at its finest.

You may have tried the Caramelized Onion & Delicata pie in hand pie form last month. Everyone loved it so much that we decided to go large-form with it. Delicata squash is maybe the coolest (and tastiest!) winter squash in town, if only because you can eat the skin! It's a textural wonder, and we think it pairs especially well with warm caramelized onions and tangy goat cheese. We bake it galette-style in a pie pan, with the edges of the crust folded up onto the filling. Serve with a bright arugula salad.

ATTENTION SP SUPER FANS! WE NEED YOUR HELP!
We have started the initial pre-design work on the future Sister Pie bakery located in the West Village of Detroit, and are hoping to open our doors early next year. The $50,000 Hatch grant money will go directly toward our projected build-out and construction costs. We still need: kitchen equipment and our remaining start-up funds to fully complete this next big step.

ENTER THE BRICK & MORTAR PIE PAYMENT OPTION.
For $50, you can select any of the 9" pies from our monthly menu and your purchase will go directly towards a specific start-up need for Sister Pie. Every two weeks, we'll select a new item for fundraising purposes.

FOR EXAMPLE: if you buy a pie under this payment option in the next two weeks, your money will help us buy our refrigeration/freezer needs. Not only will you get a delicious pie in a uniquely decorated pie box, you'll be able to walk into Sister Pie one day and say "Hey! I helped buy that fridge!" Pretty cool, huh?
