Dear <<First Name>>,
This week is Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Week. Historically, we celebrate MLK's legacy by stepping up to make communities more equitable and serving our neighbors.
Did you know that MLK Day is the only federal holiday that is designated as a National Day of Service? This holiday is meant to encourage us to volunteer and improve our communities!
Here are a few service opportunities for the whole family in Marion County:
1. Volunteer with the White River Alliance to test the quality of our local watershed on February 5th from 12 - 4 p.m. Learn more here.
2. Volunteer for a food pantry or distribution shift to fight against hunger at Gleaners Food Bank. Learn more here.
3. Assist with Damar Services upcoming fundraising gala, which will help to support programming for youth and adults with developmental, intellectual, and behavioral disabilities. Learn more here.
In Service,
Marion County 4-H Educators

You may have heard rumors of a new Marion County 4-H Guidebook - well, it’s here!
Based on feedback from 4-H families and volunteers, we have created a guide to Marion County 4-H geared toward new members and families. This guidebook includes basic information about the Marion County 4-H program to help bridge the gap of understanding for individuals and create a more inviting and welcoming program for all.
Additionally, we have restructured our website to serve as a more user-friendly hub for current 4-H news and information. For this reason, we will not have a separate 4-H Handbook document. All information that was kept in the Marion County 4-H Handbook will now be shared on the website. We are also very excited to share that we have an updated interactive map of active 4-H clubs in Marion County!
Access all these new resources using the links below:
If you would like printed copies of any of these resources available for your club meetings or 4-H gatherings, we are happy to print at the Extension office upon request.
Thank you to our volunteer focus group that helped us create and edit both the guidebook and website the last few months! Julie Ritchie, Mindy Manges, Melissa Broz, Linda Bauknecht, and Julie Ferguson

This month, we want to shine a spotlight on the sixteen individuals who lead our Marion County 4-H Advisory Council.
4-H Advisory Council members are volunteers who help to lead the direction of the 4-H program in Marion County. They are passionate and dedicated to the mission and vision of Indiana 4-H, and spend many volunteer hours supporting the 4-H Showcase, annual events, and other fundraising initiatives to benefit the young people in Marion County.
This year, the 4-H Advisory Council is working to develop strategic priorities that will guide our program's focus for the next three years. In the picture above, the group is discussing the great things that are happening in 4-H, future opportunities for the program, and challenges or obstacles to consider.
Thank you, 4-H Advisory Council members, for your tireless dedication to Marion County 4-H!
