4-H Members, Families, and Volunteers:
Happy March and a beautiful beginning to springtime in 4-H! We are excited for the many memories and new skills our Marion County 4-H'ers will learn in the sunny days ahead.
Back in ancient Roman days, March would represent the beginning of a new year! Before 150 BCE, one year was ten months long, and began in March. There are hints of this old calendar in our modern times; December (the 10th month) comes from the Latin decem meaning "ten," September comes from septem meaning "seven," and so on.
Speaking of ancient times...maybe this little ancient Roman tidbit will inspire you to do some digging into your own history with a 4-H genealogy project!
Happy Exploring -

Rethink Your Drink Campaign
The Top 10 Coalition is working with the Indianapolis City Council to adopt an ordinance that would ensure that a healthy drink is the first choice in kids’ meals offerings. Over one-third of children and teens living in the United States eat fast food on a given day and 85% of households eat out 5 times per week. When kids eat out, they eat more calories and added sugars than when they eat non-restaurant foods. Kids’ meals can have up to 51 grams of sugar, which is almost 13 teaspoons of sugar. If you are interested in finding out how you can support the Rethink Your Drink campaign, please head over to their website here.
