Winter 2021

2020 In Review

Wow-what a year! This year has been unlike any other. Most of the Love My Air team has been re-deployed to address the pressing needs of COVID-19 response for the city of Denver. Some of our staff support the COVID-19 call center, while others help with planning, organizing, and strategizing how to address Denverites' pressing needs during the pandemic. Despite spending much of our time working in COVID-19 response, Love My Air has accomplished some exciting goals! Three new Denver Public Schools (DPS) are joining the Love My Air program. We finalized a fun video to learn more about Love My Air Denver. We developed video labs and case studies to use in remote and hybrid DPS classrooms. We created a replication toolkit and no-cost licensing agreement. Love My Air presented at the Air Sensor International Conference Virtual Fall Series and contributed to a recently published study by Colorado University Boulder. Last but certainly not least, Love My Air began developing the Love My Air app!

University of Colorado Boulder & DDPHE Collaboration

C.U. Boulder and DDPHE partnered to develop the recently published study: “Improving Accuracy of Air Pollution Exposure Measurements: Statistical Correction Of Municipal Airborne Low-cost Particulate Matter Sensor Network”. The study used data from Love My Air sensor sites to develop a statistical method to correct low-cost air sensor particulate matter measurements at regulatory monitors within Denver. The study used PM2.5 measurements from the Denver Department of Public Health and Environment (DDPHE)’s network of low-cost Love My Air sensors against measurements from co-located U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Federal Equivalence Method (FEM) monitors. The statistical methods developed in this study will be used to correct low-cost sensor measurements to better understand PM2.5 pollution in the city and county of Denver. Click here to read the study!

Announcing The Love My Air Replication Toolkit!

Love My Air Denver would like to expand the impacts of the Love My Air program beyond the city and county of Denver. To create an easy way to develop similar air monitoring and air quality education programs elsewhere, we developed a no-cost licensing agreement to grant use of the Love My Air Brand, and the Love My Air replication toolkit. The replication toolkit provides resources and support to launch additional Love My Air programs. The replication toolkit is comprised of an engagement toolkit, elementary air quality curriculum, and a public health toolkit.

Once the no-cost licensing agreement is complete, licensees will be able to access the replication toolkit resources. To see an outline of the replication toolkit contents click here! If you are interested in replicating the Love My Air program or have any questions about the replication toolkit please email LMA@denvergov.org

This PM 2.5 Infographic is one of the many visual design elements available in the replication toolkit (available in English and Spanish)! For questions or comments about the replication toolkit email LMA@denvergov.org
LMA Presents - Youth Education & Outreach
Like so many conferences, the Air Sensor International Conference transitioned to a virtual conference series this fall. Love My Air presented at the ASIC Fall Series Session 3 to discuss air quality youth education and development. Click here to check out recordings of the ASIC Virtual Fall Series – Session 3!
LMA Launches App Development!
LMA is developing a Love My Air phone application to provide a central location for LMA air sensor data, air quality curriculum, education, and replication toolkit resources. Version 1.0 will be available in Spring 2021. Stay tuned for updates about the LMA app release date!
This year looked different for all of us. Here are a few snapshots of program manager Michael Ogletree working on the Love My Air program.
