It's definitely summer now, and if you're not sitting in your garden with a cool drink, getting covered in mud at a festival, or heading out on your holiday, the Space is a great place to come do amazing things!
This month, we have big news about our favourite hacker festival - EMF Camp - as well as Mini Maker Faires, the laser cutter, and all our usual groups and events!
EMF is coming!
Ever wanted to get into a field with a whole bunch of fellow hackers and just enjoy the great outdoors, neat projects, good wifi, and a nice bar?
EMF Camp was a massive success in 2012, as proven by this BBC article, and after a year to rest up, it's back and going to be bigger than before.
Taking place in Newton Longville, near Milton Keynes and Bletchley, EMF Camp is on August 29th - 31st. Tickets are available now for £95, and you can see some of the amazing things that will be happening on the EMF 2014 Wiki.
Nottingham Hackspace will have a village at EMF Camp, and we hope that you'll help us make our village a fantastic place for everyone to hang out.
The Nottingham Hackspace has purchased two EMF camp tickets specifically for members who cannot afford the full £95 ticket price.
You can enter our prize draw and win your chance to buy one of these tickets for just £45 - saving £50!.
To be eligible, you must be a Nottingham Hackspace member and not have purchased your ticket already. You will also need to arrange your own transportation, sleeping arrangements, and food, all of which you can find on our Wiki.
To sign up, simply email email@example.com by Monday, 14 July. Winners will be randomly chosen by random number generator on Wednesday, 16 July, at the Open Night. If a winner refuses to purchase the ticket, the draw will run again using the existing applicants until a winner purchases the tickets.
Lasers, Lasers, Lasers!
Have you seen our laser cutter in action yet?
We've inducted around 30 people so far on this amazing machine, and there are at least 20 more people waiting impatiently for their induction.
But that's not all! We're now having a pledge drive for a rotary attachment, letting us engrave cylinders and cones. It'll be around £350, and it's up to you to join in to make amazing things with the laser cutter!. Find out more on Laser Cutter Rotary Tool wiki page.
Maker Faires Ahoy!
Derby's just announced their third annual Mini Maker Faire on Saturday, 25 October.
Last year's was a huge success in their newly renovated Silk Mill, and we know that this year's will be amazing.
You can sign up as a maker now. Nottingham Hackspace will have a table, but we really encourage all makers to sign up for their own tables to show off their amazing projects!
We have regular groups that meet up to focus on a particular skills - so if you want to pick up something new, check out these!
The Ukulele Orchestra meets every other Thursday, and is aimed at beginners and improvers. This month, we're meeting three times - the 3rd, 17th, and 31st! Each session is themed to a different genre or artist, and to find out more, or to suggest a theme, check out our Facebook page.
Our gaming group will be meeting on the 20th for board games, RPGs, tabletop and card games. Follow the discussion on the Google Group and have your say on what you want to play next!
This month's photography group will take place on Monday, 7 July, from 6:30 - 9:30. We'll be talking about "Shapes, Shadows, and Forms" - especially how to specifically draw and lead the eye around your photos.
Our next Arduino Evenings are on 10th and 24th July, where you can work on your projects, get advice, see new ideas, and just generally enjoy playing with the Arduino boards. And don't forget our Introduction to Arduino Workshop on Saturday, 19 July!
Comics Making Group!
Our Comics Making Group started last month, and it's already drawing an interest (ha! get it?). We'll be meeting again on Thursday, 10th July from 7 to 9pm.
The group is aimed at anyone interested in making comics - from writing, drawing, inking, lettering, or editing. If you missed the first meeting, don't worry - come to this one and get involved. You don't need to be able to draw, you just need to love making comics!
