Join in the fun with Tidy Up Tuesday and Hack the Space Day!
This month we'd like to really make headway on improving the current Hackspace and downstairs! With this in mind...
Tidy Up Tuesday!
Tuesday, 12 April, 6pm onwards
- sorting the large sheet storage
- tidying the comfy area, blue room and craft room
- cleaning the kitchen
- clearing and tidying the studio
- sorting the laser cutter area and clearing away scrap
Hack the Space Day!
Sunday, 17 April, Noon onwards
- auditing the LPS and hopefully bringing in our new labeling system
- pulling down the paneling from the walls downstairs
- pulling down old sprinkler systems and possibly old electrics
- clearing, tidying and possibly skipping large amounts of scrap
As you can tell, there's lots to do!
We'd love to see as many members coming and helping out with one - or both! - of these events. Food will be provided - pizza (or burger of your choice!) on Tuesday, and a platter of lunchtime/afternoon goodies and cakes on Sunday.
On Sunday 17th April the nomination window opens for the three trustee positions that are becoming vacant. If you are interested in standing, send your nomination to firstname.lastname@example.org between 00:00 on Sunday 17th April and 23:59 on Sunday 8th May, including your full name, a photo of yourself and a paragraph on why you would like to be a trustee. These will be made public on the wiki until the election closes. The election voting will start during May and run for 7 days - keep an eye on your emails, the Google group and future newsletters for more details.
You can see information about our current trustees on the Board Wiki Page. We'd like to see as many members as possible applying to be trustees, and applications from women and minorities are especially encouraged.
'Trustee' may sound like an intimidating title, but it's a job many of us have done in our spare time since Nottingham Hackspace began. You'll be part of a group deeply involved in decision making and setting strategy for the space.
We are also looking for a returning officer to set up and handle the OPA vote system for the election - if you are interested in volunteering, please email email@example.com as soon as possible. You will be responsible for administering the vote, addressing any queries from members eligible to vote and releasing the results.
Retro Computing Group
Thursday, 21 April, 7:30pm - 10pm
The Retro Computing group meet on the third Thursday of the month at 7:30PM and fire up old computers from a bygone era. March saw a Commodore P500 and C64 get the onceover and a BBC micro get some disk drives. Who knows what April's meeting will bring?
Stitch and Bitch
Tuesday, 19 April, 6pm onwards
Do you knit? Crochet? Weave? Spin? Nålebinding? Embroidery? Kumihimo? Anything to do with stitching? Every third Tuesday, from approximately 6pm onwards, we’ll be in the comfy area getting our stitch on.
Skatenights at the Space
Tuesday, 5 and 26 April, 6pm onwards
Skatenights run on the first and fourth Tuesdays of every month, where we watch skate videos and films, do some board maintenance, and thoroughly utilise the Hackspace for skating fun. The fun starts at 6pm, and if you're not a member, you're welcome to get a tour of the space as well. Join up with Nottingham Longboarding to find out about future events!
Remember these important dates at your local hackspace!
