It's finally warming up, and the Space is really busy - stop on in and see everything that's going on!
We had a great time at Maker Faire last weekend, and we have some big things coming up this month!
Your Hackspace Needs YOU!
Our Nottingham Hackspace Annual General Meeting will be at the Space on Thursday, 22 May, at 8pm.
This is something that must be done annually to ensure that the Hackspace can continue to run, and we need you to attend. In order to complete the year properly, and file our financial accounts, the meeting must be quorate - which means at least 52 members need to be there.
Please make every effort to come to the meeting, or register a proxy vote with the trustees by emailing them now.
Also at the AGM, we'll start the elections for new trustees. Every year, at least three trustee positions are open, and current trustees can be re-elected or new trustees can be elected. From next year, the trustees will take on more responsibility for the strategy of the space - where we're going in the next few years, and how we're going to get there. Additionally, they'll have ultimate responsibility for the administrative teams (such as the Membership Team, the Safety Team, etc.), although they will not necessarily be involved in day-to-day running.
If you're interested in becoming a trustee, please email firstname.lastname@example.org by Sunday, 4th May. You must include your full legal name, a photograph of yourself, and a paragraph about why you want to be a trustee. You can see examples from our current trustees on the Board Wiki page.
We hope to see you all at the AGM!
Get Ready For Open Day!
Our annual Hackspace Open Day will be Saturday, 17 May.
Running from 1pm to 5pm, this is a chance for all members to show off projects and the space to friends, family, coworkers, and other members of the public. We'll have projects on display, have things for people to do on the day, and will be making the space as bright, cheerful, and exciting as it can be.
But we need your support! If you can give tours, show off projects, or assist in soldering or other small projects, please show up on the day and see where you can help - even just greeting people or making a cup of tea is a great help!
And after the big day, it's the Annual Open Day Party for members and their guests! With drinks, snacks, and everyone taking it easy, the Open Day Party is a great way to meet fellow members and just have a great time in the space.
The party begins around 6, and will continue until the wee hours of the night.
We hope to see you at the Open Day or at the party!
This Month's Groups
We have regular groups that meet up to focus on a particular skills - so if you want to pick up something new, check out these!
The second in a series of regular Arduino evenings will be tonight, 1 May. James Fowkes will be discussing wireless communications, including how to communicate with your Arduino from a PC or laptop, and how to use an Arduino to read data from wireless sensors.
Our newly formed gaming group meets on the 20th for board games, RPGs, tabletop and card games. Sophie, the group organiser, is looking for people interested in starting up DnD campaigns - so follow the discussion on the Google Group and have your say!
The Ukulele Orchestra meets every other Thursday, and is aimed at beginners and improvers. Each session is themed to a different genre or artist, with last month's themes being Britpop and Prince! To find out more, and to suggest a theme, check out our Facebook page.
This month's photography group will take place on Monday, 7 April, from 6:30 - 9:30. Open to members and non-members and aimed at anyone who is interested in getting more from their photographs. This month, we'll be looking at some of the technical aspects of photography, including aperture, shutter speed, and other key terms.
