Nottingham Hackspace

Hi everyone!

It's September, and even though the leaves might start falling and the kids are going back to school, there's still plenty of excitement at the space!  Along with our post-EMF Camp enthusiasm, we have the Leicester Creator Faire coming up as well as our regular groups!

Fun at EMF!

EMFWe had an amazing time at EMF! From Simon Singh talking about Colossus to the LED light field that was The Grid to the proliferation of tiny red rabbits, there was so much to see and do at EMF that we couldn't possibly contain it all in this newsletter. But here are a few of our highlights:

Ring-Making

Many of our members went to Daan Uttien's workshop to learn how to make their own silver ring. And then with his handmade ring, member Adam Cooper proposed to his girlfriend (and fellow Hackspace member) Sophie Wilkinson! Congratulations, and we all expect a properly hacked wedding!

Barbot

You've been hearing about Barbot since March, and EMF was its time to shine - and shine it did! With plenty of alcohol and mixers available, Barbot had lines around the camp waiting for their robotically-mixed drinks. You can see a video of Barbot in action, and the write-up will soon be on Planet Nottinghack!

Alcohol Vapouriser

Hackspace member Toby brought his ultrasonic alcohol vapouriser to EMF and was interviewed by Tom Scott for his regular YouTube series Things You Might Not Know. Watch the video to find out how Toby made his vapouriser, and discover how it really doesn't get you drunk!

You see what fun we had in our Flickr photo set, and also see some of our work in the BBC News article and the Guardian article on EMF.

Thank you to everyone who helped out with the packing, supplying, set-up, and take-down of the Nottinghack Village, especially to Sophie for doing all the cooking and James and Vicky for loaning their marquees. And we hope to see you at EMF 2016!

Creator Fair Needs YOU!

We're hosting a Nottingham Hackspace table at the National Space Centre's Creator Fair on 20-21 September!

We’ll be showing off projects and prototypes, as well as hosting LED badge soldering workshops, and we need volunteers to help run the stall and workshops, as well as your projects to show off!

If you can help out as a volunteer, or addyour work to our stall, let us know on the Google Group thread.

Plus, if you're a company or an individual that wants to host a stall, get in touch with the National Space Centre, because there's still time to book a place!

Come talk at Pecha Kucha!

Have you heard of Pecha Kucha? It's a 20x20 talk - 20 images, 20 seconds per image, loose and fast talking about any subject.

The Nottingham Creative Quarter runs Pecha Kucha Nottingham events every month around Nottingham's Creative Quarter, giving local businesses and creative enterprises a chance to network and see what amazing ideas are coming out of the area.

Nottingham Hackspace will be hosting the next Pecha Kucha event on Friday, 19 September. The event runs from 4pm until 6pm, and is free to attend.

So if you want to see some amazing things being presented, check out Pecha Kucha!
