French Minister Ségolène Royal Speaks at Cities & Regions Pavilion
Ségolène Royal, the French Minister for Ecology, Sustainable Development and Energy, joined Mayor of Nantes, Johanna Rolland, on stage at the Cities & Regions Pavilion to launch the Nantes Climate Actors World Summit. The Summit will take place on 26-28 September 2016.
Join CCAC Session on Cleaning Air in Cities
Urban air pollution is a significant issue in terms of both health and climate. Short-lived climate pollutants (SLCPs) such as black carbon and methane are the main contributors to health-harmful air pollution. At 11.00 on 3 December, the Climate & Clean Air Coalition will present strategies and technologies for cities to tackle SLCPs.

Frontrunner Cities Transforming Transport Systems
How Innovative transport concepts in Oslo, Johannesburg, Milan and San Francisco are translated into action will be some of the highlights at a session in the Cities & Regions Pavilion on Thursday, 3 December.

Additionally, the session offers a closer look at how transport defines a city’s design and at new concepts for empowering cities to invest in fossil-free transport. The session is organized by the City of Oslo and KS, the Norwegian Association of Local and Regional Authorities.

The Nord-Pas de Calais Region in France and the State of Minas Gerais in Brazil have a similar industrial and mining history. Due to this common industrial heritage, these two regions face the same challenges in the field of energy transition and climate protection. This special session at 11.00 on 3 December will allow the partners to explore possible future solutions around energy transitions and climate change. An Economic Case for Compact, Connected and Coordinated Cities

This session, hosted by World Resources Institute (WRI), presented and discussed recent research by New Climate Economy (NCE). This research shows the substantial economic benefits that cities can accrue by developing in a way that reduces urban sprawl. A lively panel discussion considered the implications of the research.

At a Europe TAP Time session on 1 December, the cities of Bristol (UK), Reykjavik (Iceland) and Malmö (Sweden) offered innovative ways to envision and implement solutions for low-carbon and resilient cities. Whether through virtual simulation or real-life testing and doing, the three cities are allowing citizens and planners to envision a sustainable future.

ICLEI Co-Hosts Session on Accelerating Peaking in Developing Countries at the COP21 China Pavilion

ICLEI, along with the National Development and Reform Commission of China (NDRC), the central planning agency in the People’s Republic of China and US-based Rocky Mountain Institute, cohosted a session on the use of low-carbon development strategies to achieve greenhouse gas emissions peaking goals in developing countries.
