Mayors Celebrate Progress on Local Climate Advocacy
On 5 December 2015, ICLEI brought together mayors from around the world to celebrate the progress made on the recognition, engagement and empowerment of local governments in international sustainability debates. Wonsoon Park, Mayor of Seoul and ICLEI President, opened the session, which featured contributions from the Mayors of Oakland (USA), Bonn (Germany) and Joondalup (Australia).

AFD to Explore Options for Local Climate Finance
The need for increased finance for climate actions at the local level is consistently mentioned as a hurdle for sustainable development. The Agence Française de Développement, as a major funding body, is perfectly placed to explain the potential for further finance and the strategies local governments might adopt. In preparing for the Third United Nations Conference on Housing and Sustainable Urban Development (Habitat III) in 2016, the Cities Alliance members have developed a Joint Work Programme to create and deliver a common set of priority messages.
