Mayors Convene For Landmark Climate Summit For Local Leaders
On 4 December 2015, hundreds of mayors convened at Paris City Hall for the Climate Summit for Local Leaders, as part of the largest global convening of mayors, governors and local leaders focused on climate change.

Cities to Explore EcoMobile Future
At 15:00 on 5 December at the Cities & Regions Pavilion, city representatives including Mpho Parks Tau (Mayor, Johannesburg) and Clover Moore (Mayor, Sydney) will explore how to transform urban mobility policies to favor walking, cycling and public transport. The session will build on the recent EcoMobility World Festival 2015, which took place in Johannesburg for the entire month of October and resulted in the Johannesburg Declaration on EcoMobility in Cities.

Copenhagen: Carbon Neutral by 2025
At 14:00 on 5 December at the Cities & Regions Pavilion, Copenhagen will discuss its rapid green transformation towards carbon neutrality by 2025. In the session, city representatives will consider the biggest successes and challenges of the project, along with the role of the private sector and other partners. The session will also consider how much of Copenhagen's strategy can be replicated in other cities.

Vancouver Econimic Commision to Host Session on Green Development
On 5 December at 14:00, the Vancouver Economic Commission (VEC) will host a session examining Vancouver's strategy for green economic development. Participants will explore options for leveraging the capacity of businesses and academia, as well as the options for regenerative neighborhood development.

ICLEI to Present Achievements of Local Climate Advocacy
On 5 December at 13.00, ICLEI will host a session in the Cities & Regions Pavilion to highlight the achievements and further ambitions of the Local Government Climate Roadmao (LGCR). The LGCR has consistently advocated national governments to recognize, engage and empower local and subnational governments in international climate change processes.

Reducing GHG emissions through Sustainable Public Procurement
On 5 December at 17:30, the Cities & Regions Pavilion at COP21 will feature a session on sustainable public procurement (SPP). The goal of this side event is to raise awareness about the potential of SPP as a tool to reduce GHG emissions. The discussion will focus on how to measure the greenhouse gas emissions of public procurement. Three members of the 10YFP on SPP programme will present case studies from Europe, Asia and North America to illustrate, through specific examples and empirical data, what role SPP can play in reducing GHG emissions.

Measure It So You Can Manage It

At a special session on 4 December at the Cities & Regions Pavilion, ICLEI presented the carbonn Climate Registry (cCR), the world’s leading reporting platform to enhance transparency, accountability and credibility of climate action of local and subnational governments. City representatives discussed opportunities offered by the platform, along with the importance of standardized reporting for local climate action.

5 December: High Level Action Day in UNFCCC Blue Zone

The Action Day on 5 December will feature high level meetings on climate action as part of the Lima Paris Action Agenda (LPAA). At a special meeting  on cities at 13:00, Mayor Wonsoon Park, Mayor of Seoul and President of ICLEI, will join mayors including Anne Hidalgo (Paris) and Mpho Parks Tau (Johannesburg) in delivering remarks.
Third Industrial Revolution Comes to Life in Nord-Pas de Calais

In a session on 2 December at the Cities & Regions Pavilion, the Nord-Pas de Calais region described how it was implementing the principles of the Third Industrial Revolution, conceptualized by Jeremy Rifkin, to regenerate following deindustrialization and social and ecological crises. The master plan, built on a bottom-up approach, today has between 250 and 300 ongoing projects.

Stockholm’s Fossil Fuel-Free Ambition

At a session at the Cities & Regions Pavilion on 3 December, Stockholm explained how it plans to become fossil fuel-free by 2040. This is a signficant challenge, as Stockholm is one of the fastest growing cities in Europe. However, the city has already made significant progress, particularly in the areas of district heating, biogas and renewable energy generation.

Social And Environmental Transitions In French Cities And Regions

Paris, its Seine-Saint-Denis region and the town of Grande-Synthe are all pursuing transformative projects to renovate and regenerate their housing and economies. As this TAP Time session showed, housing renovation can form part of a holistic vision, creating jobs and stimulating the economy while reducing air pollution and costs and helping to tackle climate change.
