TAP Talk: Sir David King
Sir David King, an Emeritus Professor in Physical Chemistry at the University of Cambridge, is the UK Government Special Representative for Climate Change and Chairman of the Future Cities Catapult. On 10 December at 14.30, Sir David will give a special TAP Talk at the Cities & Regions Pavilion, explaining how Future Cities Catapult helps innovators turn ingenious ideas into working prototypes that can be tested in urban settings. During the session, Sir David King will engage with two mayors on the topic of transformative local climate action.

World Premiere of
"The Urban Green"
Join us at the Cities & Regions Pavilion on 10 December at 12:00 for the world premiere of World Wildlife Fund (WWF) documentary, "The Urban Green". Produced by Tommy Gärdh, this documentary journeys across the globe to discover inspiring cities and an array of concrete solutions to combat climate change. Reflections on the film will be offered by a panel including Célia Blauel, Deputy Mayor of Paris, France.

Melaka State to Present Green City Action Plan
On 10 December at 11:00 in the Cities & Regions Pavilion, the State of Melaka will present its Green City Action Plan. The session will share key findings of the greenhouse gas emission inventory for Melaka State along with initiatives undertaken by Melaka to achieve its Green Vision.
Bill McKibben to Speak at Municipal Divestment Session
On 11 December at 11:00, the Cities & Regions Pavilion will welcome Bill McKibben, world-renowned author, environmentalist and activist, and co-founder of campaign group 350.org, for a debate on municipal fossil fuel divestment as a tool to avert catastropic climate change. Bill McKibben joins a panel that will highlight municipalities' committments to divest and how to engage other municipal leaders.
LGMA Constituency Interprets the Draft Paris Outcome

On 9 December at 15.00, version 1 of the draft text for the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action was released. If the text is adopted as is, COP21 in Paris will conclude with an inclusive climate regime that has positive implications for the recognition of local and subnational governments. Whether or not the climate regime will be ambitious and fair depends upon the language used with respect to the long-term goal on global climate neutrality or 100% renewable energy, adaptation, loss-and-damage and climate finance.

Resilient Cities Partners with Medellin Collaboration

A new Cities Alliance Joint Work Program on Resilient Cities will partner with the Medellín Collaboration on Urban Resilience (MCUR) under an action-orientated commitment to support 500 cities to the strengthen the resilience of their informal communities by 2020. This global cooperation will catalyze the two main focus areas, which include facilitating the flow of global knowledge and resources and leveraging global products for cities, and particularly in informal settlements.

Transforming Degraded Landscape In Ogun State, Nigeria

At a session on 8 December, Ogun State presented an initiative to revitalize a degraded area of 108,000 hectares within the state through reforestation efforts. In particular, the project will pursue agroforestry, which involves planting trees and shrubs in amongst agricultural crops. The project is unprecedented in both its nature and its scale, with the total area visible from space.

Reducing Emissions through Sustainable Public Procurement

A UNEP-hosted session on 5 December raised awareness about the potential of sustainable public procurement (SPP) as a tool to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The discussion focused on how to measure greenhouse gas emissions of public procurement. Three members of the 10-year framework program (10YFP) on SPP presented case studies from Europe, Asia and North America that illustrate the role SPP can play in reducing emissions.
