Introducing Metropolitan Solutions 2016

Dear ICLEI Friends and Colleagues,

To fast track and scale up their actions, cities and regions are partnering with businesses that deliver innovations to support sustainable development.

Cities and regions need to communicate their demands and needs to the private sector and direct the markets for the benefit of their inhabitants and the environment. This year, ICLEI is increasing engagement with businesses to foster city-business collaboration based sustainability values and cities' needs.

We invite all local and subnational governments to join ICLEI at Metropolitan Solutions 2016 in Berlin. Taking place on 31 May–2 June, Metropolitan Solutions is the premier meeting point for cities and businesses to advance cooperation on sustainability. This year, Metropolitan Solutions coincides with the German Habitat III Forum, the first international preparatory event for Habitat III in Quito to discuss the zero draft of the New Urban Agenda.

ICLEI is hosting three conference at Metropolitan Solutions 2016. Smart CITIES 2.0 examines how cities can benefit from the often technology-focused Smart Cities debate, providing a platform for cities to demonstrate how they use ‘smartness’ to address urban challenges. At Urban Trends, leading thinkers and practitioners highlight key trends that are fundamentally transforming cities, while Sustainable Urban China provides a central meeting platform for Chinese and European decision makers and practitioners.

Metropolitan Solutions is a major opportunity for local and subnational governments to take city-business collaboration to the next level. We look forward to seeing you in June.

With kind regards,

Monika Zimmermann
Deputy Secretary General, ICLEI
