Public Invited to Join Santa Run on State Capitol Grounds

BISMARCK – The second annual 5K Bismarck Santa Run/Walk will be held on the State Capitol grounds in Bismarck on Saturday, Dec. 12 at 10 a.m. Registration and packet pickup begins at 9 a.m. at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum. The first 500 participants, ages 13 and older, will receive free Santa suits to wear while running. Children ages 12 and under will receive a Santa hat and t-shirt.

The Santa Run is a unique 5K run/walk around the State Capitol grounds. Registration is $35 before Dec. 11 and $40 on race day. Runners and walkers of any fitness level are welcome. All proceeds benefit Runners Against Destructive Decisions (RADD) to support community members struggling from addiction.

RADD is a running group formed by South Central District Court Judge David Reich to help those recovering from addiction seek healthier lifestyles and to increase awareness of addiction issues in our community. RADD runs every Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday at 6:30 a.m. from the YMCA and provides running shoes when needed. Reich started RADD based on his experience with many court cases stemming from drug and alcohol abuse.

The Santa Run/Walk, organized by RADD, will feature live music, entertainment, and holiday treats in the North Dakota Heritage Center and carolers along the race course. Kevin Kirby, CEO and co-founder of Face It Together and long-term addiction survivor, will serve as guest speaker during the post-race ceremony. Through community-based addiction management programs, Face It Together collaborates with health care organizations to deliver comprehensive addiction care, getting more people well and reducing costs to communities.

Hope Manor in Bismarck will be the designated charity receiving monetary support from the Santa Run/Walk. Approximately 20 women residents are striving to live sober free lives, with Hope Manor as their safe place of hope.
