Museum Lab Program Explores Weaving for School-Age Kids
BISMARCK – Children in grades K-6 can now be registered for “Museum Lab: Weaving” Feb. 6 at 10:30 a.m. This free program will explore methods and materials for weaving and include making a loom out of cardboard and weaving baskets from paper and tree bark. Students will learn how people have created textiles in the past and how we use new materials in traditional ways. They will also create an art project with provided materials.
Museum Lab—part science lab, part DIY garage—connects science, technology, art, and history with everyday experiences and an atmosphere of experimentation. Students explore how historians use real-world problems and authentic objects to anchor modern issues in a historical context. They will learn how historians, scientists, and artists work together to spark new ideas and deepen their understanding of content.
Sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, future “Museum Lab” programs will include leather making projects, pottery, gardening, and plants and animals of North Dakota.
Registration now open at museumed.eventbrite.com. For more information, or to discuss any allergy or accessibility concerns, please contact Danielle "Dani" Stuckle at dlstuckle@nd.gov or 701.328.2794. For more programs sponsored by the State Historical Society of North Dakota, go to history.nd.gov.
