Public Registration Open for Recycled Art Course

BISMARCK, N.D. – Children ages 8 and up and adults can register for a three-session course, "Recycled Art: Creating a Collagraph," in January at the North Dakota Heritage Center & State Museum as an activity related to the “Green Revolution” exhibition at the museum. Participants will create a collage to use as a printing plate and ultimately design and complete a personal work of art under the direction of local art instructor Andrea Vinje. Registration and a $10 course supply fee are required at bit.ly/janrecart.

Sessions begin on Jan. 14, when participants will create a collage as their printing plate. On Jan. 21, participants will be inking and printing from the homemade printing plate. Jan. 28 will include designing and matting production prints to create the final artwork.  All sessions are from 10:30 a.m. to noon.

"Green Revolution" is a traveling eco-friendly exhibit with a minimal carbon footprint. Through hands-on activities and historic objects, visitors will gain awareness of sustainability and learn simple ways to help protect our air, water, soil, and environment. This version of “Green Revolution” is based on an exhibition originally created by the Museum of Science and Industry, Chicago, and its Black Creativity Council and made available by the Smithsonian Institution Traveling Exhibition Service. The State Historical Society of North Dakota has enhanced the exhibit with examples of North Dakota sustainability.

This “Recycled Art” course is supported in part by a grant from the North Dakota Council on the Arts, which receives funding from the state legislature and the National Endowment for the Arts.
