Public Invited to Blacksmith Demonstration and Accordion Concerts at Welk Homestead State Historic Site

BISMARCK – Bob McCay, a blacksmith in his spare time, will share his knowledge of the craft on Aug. 6 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Welk Homestead State Historic Site near Strasburg. The Bismarck resident, a blacksmith for 10 years, learned the craft while working with others and enjoys demonstrating and teaching. Joining McCay will be Strasburg native Loren Wald,  who is learning blacksmithing and frequently works with McCay.
 
Mandan musician Vern Cermak will perform an accordion concert on Aug. 11 at 4 p.m.  This concert is in conjunction with a tour of Emmons County by the Tri-County Tourism Alliance and is also open to the public. Cermak will return to the Welk Homestead on August 21, at 2 p.m. for another accordion concert. Limited seating will be provided, so those attending may bring blankets or lawn chairs. 75-year old Cermak, a retired elementary school teacher, has been playing varying instruments since he was 7-years old. He was recently recognized for his contributions to his hometown by being appointed Grand Marshall of the Mandan 4th of July Parade and having the Band Shell at Dykshoom Park named in his honor.
 
All programs are free and open to the public.
