DESCRIPTION
CUBA GOES TAP
A project conceived and directed by Cuban composer Keyla Orozco, featuring acclaimed Austrian-American Tap dancer Max Pollak, creator of ‘RumbaTap’, merging American Rhythm Tap with Afro-Cuban music and dance.
Central focus of the CUBA GOES TAP program is the world premiere of Orozco's TRAVELING SHOE STORIES, a half hour piece for tap dancer and chamber ensemble, in which Cuban-Venezuelan folk music, western classical tradition, pop, jazz, improvisation and tap dance live harmonically together.
Top-Class musicians David Kweksilber, Tatiana Koleva, Mariana Hutchinson, Gustavo Corrales Romero and tap dancer Max Pollak form a groundbreaking innovative ensemble for this singular occasion.
The show brings the audience a unique experience regarding to what is commonly known in the world about both Cuban music and tap dance. Through the original and versatile dance style of Max Pollak and the multi-abilities of our excellent musicians, the show travels from folk and popular to classical, jazz and contemporary music styles that have been always present in Cuba. Both written and improvised music and dance have an equal role in the show.
