Dear Career Practitioners,

Welcome to our first edition for 2019! To hit the ground running, we have been working hard over the holiday period to prepare for the influx of VETiS students while developing new workshops and taster programs. This year we are excited to be partnering with WorldSkills Australia to integrate an internationally recognised curriculum into our VETiS and post-secondary courses, and we have begun developing additional programs to support VCE curriculums within the school environment.

Our calendar is filling up with bookings for expos, tours and workshops, so please feel free to email us at schools@boxhill.edu.au with any requests you may have.

Kind regards,
The schools Relationship Unit
VETiS
Enrolments and Key Dates

With nationally recognised qualifications and pathways to over 500 careers, the popularity of VETiS continues to grow within secondary schools. For 2019, Box Hill Institute received close to 1,700 applications – our highest number yet!

With information evenings and orientation sessions run late last year and continuing in January for select subjects, the majority of students are well placed to begin their studies on Wednesday, 6 February.

As a reminder, please note that the final date for withdrawing students from a VETiS program without incurring fees is Friday, 8 March.

You can track your student’s attendance and all reporting via the VETiS Portal at www.boxhill.edu.au/our-courses/vetis/.

If you do not have access or have forgotten your login details, please contact vetis@boxhill.edu.au.
WorldSkills

Competing on the national and world stage

WorldSkills Australia trains competitors in more than 50 trades and skills and  allows VETiS students to compete at local, regional and national levels, while post-secondary students can progress to an international level. Competitions are designed by industry and skills experts who assess an individual’s knowledge, practical competence and employability skills against a set of strict criteria.

This year, Box Hill Institute will run up to 12 competitions and will integrate WorldSkills training into our post-secondary and VETiS curriculum. This will expose students to internationally recognised skill sets, the ability to compete within Australia and abroad, while gaining recognition in their chosen industry.

First year VETiS students undertaking automotive, plumbing, construction and hairdressing studies will all be eligible to compete in local competitions. Successful students will be assigned a Box Hill Institute mentor to help prepare them for regional and national competitions.

For more information, please contact Cherie Wright on (03) 9286 9384.

State topping VCE results

Once again, the list of VCE high achievers published by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority has highlighted the outstanding work of Box Hill Institute students.

In Equine Studies, nine of the top ten students across the state studied with Box Hill Institute – no mean feat considering our students only account for 40% of all students enrolled in the subject! In Lab Skills, four of the top seven students across the state studied with Box Hill Institute. While in both Equine Studies and Lab Skills our students achieved the top score for the State and will be receiving a Premier’s VCE Award.

Congratulations to Brodie Harrison for coordinating both subjects, and to her highly talented team of teachers for preparing their students to achieve these outstanding results!
