In Memoriam: Randall Stout, FAIA, 1958 - 2014
"Randall Stout, a Los Angeles architect who designed complex buildings that either fit lyrically into their urban sites or fused seamlessly within their natural environments, died on July 11 from renal cell cancer at the age of 56.
An environmentalist as well as an artist architect, he specialized in museums and cultural facilities that explored and developed the relationship between architecture and energy. Clients hired him for his charismatic designs that were both sensitive to program and capable of creating a strong and iconic civic presence for the institution." - Architecture Magazine
We are thankful for Stout's contribution to Edmonton's downtown in his design for the Art Gallery of Alberta. Inspired by the Northern Lights and the curves of the North Saskatchewan River, the AGA has quickly become an iconic image of Edmonton. Our condolences are with his family and friends.
