Workshop on Peri-Urban Water Security: Interaction Between Formal and Informal Players - 21 to 23 June 2017, Hyderabad, India.

SaciWATERs in partnership with Bordeaux Metropole and Arghyam will be organising the a workshop on 'Peri-Urban Water Security: Interaction Between Formal and Informal Players from 21 to 23 June 2017 at Hyderabad, India. Activities in the workshop will include field visits, project presentation, exchange of knowledge with other scholars with the objective of forming  a network among researchers.

Training Workshop on 'Aqua Republica' - A Virtual Watershed Management Game - 25 May 2017, Universiti of Jaffna, Sri Lanka.

A one day training workshop on 'Aqua Republica'  – A Virtual Watershed Management Game was conducted for 15 undergraduate students of the Faculty of Agriculture who are specializing in “Agricultural and Bio-systems Engineering” at the Computer Unit of the PGIA. Dr. S. Pathmarajah and an IDRC SAWA fellow served as facilitators for the workshop.
 
As follow up activities, these students will play a facilitator role in  similar activities that will be conducted for the students of the Faculty of Agriculture, University of Jaffna.

Deficit in sanitation: A priority issue in Argentina. 

UNESCO establishes a theme for reflection to celebrate World Water Day annually and ‘Wastewater’ is proposed for this year 2017 theme to emphasise its reduction and reuse, as a potentially affordable and sustainable source of water, energy, nutrients and other recoverable materials.  

As part of an event organized by the Undersecretariat of Water Resources of the Nation to present the United Nations World Report on the Development of Water Resources, entitled "Wastewater: the untapped resource", Arg Cap-Net conducted an interview with Mr. Victor Pochat the President Of the Argentine Institute of Water Resources about this topic.

The 3rd Water Policy Days – 27 to 28 June 2017, Palacio de las Aguas Corrientes (Aysa), Buenos Aires. 

Arg Cap-Net in partnership with the Federal Water Council (COHIFE), and the Undersecretariat of Water Resources of the Nation (SSRH) will be organising the 3rd Water Policy Days which will take place on the 27th and 28th of June 2017. Under the principles of integrated management of water resources and the objectives of the National Water Plan, the goal of this workshop is to develop and progress in the analysis of the priority water issues in Argentina.

Session on Water Regulatory Agencies in the 12th WSTA Gulf Water Conference - 28 to 30 March, 2017, Manama, Bahrain.

AWARENET organized a session on ‘Water Regulatory Agencies during the 12th WSTA Gulf Water Conference which took place in Manama, Bahrain from 28 to 30 March 2017, during a plenary attended by at least 100 participants. AWARENET representatives presented on the importance of a regulatory framework for good water governance, shared experiences of their establishment and operation and provided recommendations based on the data collected and procedures implemented by the WSRC since 2014. Examples from the Regulatory and Supervisory Bureau in Abu Dhabi were also provided.

Sustainable Water Governance Course - 26 to 30 June, Montevideo, Uruguay.

LA-WETnet in collaboration with Ingeniero en Recursos Hídricos Universidad Nacional del Litoral (FICH-UNL) Santa Fe Argentina, and Spanish Agency for International Development Cooperation (AECID) will be organising a 5-day capacity building course on ‘Sustainable Water Governance’ from 26-30 June at AECID training centre of Montevideo, Uruguay. The training course aims to provide participants with up-to-date knowledge on the concept, dimensions, principles of water governance, and the opportunities and challenges for Latin America within the framework of a local and regional development process. Over the past 2-3 decades, the focus of national governments, international organizations, NGOs, researchers, and farmers themselves has shifted towards small-scale systems. This shift is organic and often necessary. However, it has come at the cost of falling investments in the operation and maintenance of mega irrigation systems, even though they continue to be some of the biggest agricultural water users.
