As this year marked the 15th year of Cap-Net UNDP existence, once again, network managers and international partners convened at the Annual Network Managers' Meeting 2017. This year's meeting took place between 9 to 13 October 2017 at Montevideo, Uruguay. Hosted by AECID, this year's meeting included a one-day workshop, 'The 4th Targeted Regional Workshop for GEF IW Projects in Latin America & the Caribbean'.

The main objective of this year's meeting were to discuss on the work plan for the upcoming year 2018 for Cap-Net and partner networks and the way forward towards continuous improvement. The meeting includes sessions on linking SDGs in water management, conducting virtual courses and so forth.

Due to lack of quorum, this year's election for representative in the Cap-Net Management Board was conducted electronically (via a survey monkey) and commissioned by the secretariat staff. The nomination deadline was 20 October 2017 midnight Rio de Janeiro time. At the expiration of the nomination and secondment call there were two candidates namely; Ms. Lilliana Arrieta (REDICA) and Mr. Wangai Ndirangu (WaterCap) which meant the election was on who becomes the substantive and who becomes the alternate.

United Nations (UN) Day – 24 October 2017, Rio de Janeiro.

The UN Day marks the anniversary of the entry into force of the Charter of the United Nations in 1945. With the ratification of the document by the signatory countries, including the five permanent members of the Security Council and Brazil, the Organization came into existence formally.

This date was celebrated in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, together with the International Decade of Afro-descendants which was proclaimed by the UN General Assembly to be observed between 2015 and 2024, when Brazil and 192 countries pledged to face racism. There are approximately 200 million people living in the Americas who identify themselves as Afro-descendants - both people enslaved by the transatlantic trade and more recent migrants - and many are among the poorest and most marginalized groups in society.

The event was created and organised by UNIC Rio, Cap-Net UNDP, World Center for Sustainable Development (RIO + Center), PANAFTOSA, United Nations Human Settlements Program (UN-Habitat), United Nations Volunteers Program (UNV), with the participation of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO).

The International Decade of Afro-descendants was celebrated with music and party on the 24th of October 2017. The United Nations Information Center in Brazil (UNIC Rio) held a cultural event with the presentation of a band of African refugees and a musical group from the Baixada Fluminense.
