LA-WETnet strengthens collaboration with AECID with new course on Sustainable Water Management

LA-WETnet in partnership with the Spanish Agency for International Cooperation for Development (AECID), Inter American Development Bank, RALCEA Network (Latin America Network of Water Centres of Excellence), and CODIA (Iberoamerican Conference of Water Directors) will deliver a 5 day course on Sustainable Water Management.

The course will be held from 26 to 30 June 2017 at the AECID Training Centre in Montevideo, Uruguay. A maximum of 40 participants will be accepted into this course. Water governance principles, sustainable development, river basin strengthening, water and climate change, and transversal aspects as gender, human rights, and transparent will be part of this course.

United Nations World Water Development Report 2017 - 7 April 2017, Almaty, Kazakhstan

The seminar "Presentation of the United Nations World Water Development Report 2017 "Wastewater: The Untapped Resource", was organized on April 7, 2017, by the Center "Cooperation for Sustainable Development" and Central Asian Regional Water Network CAR@WAN with the support of UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty.

The event was attended by 70 representatives of all interested parties including governmental and international organizations, educational and research institutions, as well as NGOs and independent experts.

United Nations World Water Development Report 2017 "Wastewater: The Untapped Resource” - 14 April 2017, Dushanbe, Tajikistan

The seminar "Presentation of the United Nations World Water Development Report 2017 "Wastewater: The Untapped Resource" also took place at Dushanbe, Tajikistan on 14 April 2017. Similar to the seminar which was held at Almaty a week ago, this seminar was also organised by the Center "Cooperation for Sustainable Development" and Central Asian Regional Water Network CAR@WAN with the support of UNESCO Cluster Office in Almaty.

A total of 56 representatives including governmental and international organizations, educational and research institutions, as well as NGOs and independent experts attended this seminar.

Call for Proposals – Evaluation of Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN)

Rural Water Supply Network (RWSN) is calling for proposals on evaluation of their ending three-year strategic plan (2015-2017). This call for proposals is also done in conjunction of the 25th Anniversary of the founding of the Handpump Technology Network (HTN), which eventually became RWSN in the year 2006, under the leadership of the late Piers Cross. One of the aims of this evaluation, is to gather inputs and ideas for developing new strategies of RWSN.

Mega Irrigation Systems

Over the past 2-3 decades, the focus of national governments, international organizations, NGOs, researchers, and farmers themselves has shifted towards small-scale systems. This shift is organic and often necessary. However, it has come at the cost of falling investments in the operation and maintenance of mega irrigation systems, even though they continue to be some of the biggest agricultural water users.
