A Blast from the Past

For more than 60 years Grangetto's Farm and Garden Supply has been supplying San Diego's North County Gardeners and Growers with the products they need. Surviving in a changing environment hasn't always been easy and the only constant in Grangetto's business has been the need for change.

1952 Grangetto's

Edward Grangetto, Sr. started the business simply enough in 1952 by supplying crop oils and fertilizers to the agricultural community. In the early 1970's local agriculture was changing and avocados became the boom crop of the area. In response to the change, the business expanded to include other products, such as chemicals and farm hardware. But, with urban encroachment during the 1980's, Grangettos expanded the number of stores and their product line to include irrigation products and materials needed by golf courses, municipalities and professional landscape maintenance companies.

Ed Grangetto, Sr. ran the business until 1975, when his son, Eddie Grangetto, Jr. joined him in managing the business. Eddie and his father ran the business together until Ed Senior's retirement in 1982. Several years later in 1985, Eddie's brother Kevin joined him in the business. The Grangetto brothers have brought a unique quality to the business in that they were both raised on the family avocado ranch and bring real-world production experience to their customers.

While Grangetto's first started out to help the grove owner, Grangetto's has been welcoming the public for many years now and in the past few years, increasing their product lines to offer more of a variety of edible plants as well as providing a larger selection of organic solutions than your local box store.  Quality selection of products, experience and knowledge is what Grangetto's offers most for the do-it-yourself gardener.

Succulent Celebration

JUNE 7-8, 2013

North San Diego County's Waterwise Botanicals nursery will host a two-day Succulent Celebration on Friday and Saturday, June 7-8, 2013.

The first of its kind in southern CA, the event celebrates the beauty of succulent plants in low-water, easy-care landscapes, garden vignettes and container compositions. The stellar lineup of speakers includes garden photojournalist and bestselling author Debra Lee Baldwin; plant explorer and hybridizer Kelly Griffin of Altman Plants; and nurserymen/garden designers Tiger Palafox of Mission Hills Nursery, Jeff Moore of Solana Succulents, Michael Buckner of The Plant Man Nursery, and Tom Jesch of Waterwise Botanicals.

Additional highlights include tours of beautiful, low-water gardens; potting demonstrations and workshops; a huge assortment of succulents and low-water plants for sale; experts on hand to answer landscape design and plant-care questions; 20 acres of nursery and display gardens to explore; and vendors offering succulent-themed gifts, container gardens and more.
