Exercise is a proven pick me up – it’s one of the most effective ways to boost your mental health. When we exercise endorphins are released into our blood stream. These are the body’s natural painkillers and have been proven to lift our mood and reduce stress and anxiety.
You don’t need to be Richie McCaw or Sophie Pascoe to get the benefits of exercise - even brief spurts of low impact activity like walking can make a big difference.
Here’s a challenge for you - can you limit your sitting and sleeping to just 23 ½ hours a day? It’s probably the best thing you can do to help you live longer and live brighter.
There’s growing evidence that nutrition and mental wellbeing are closely linked. The healthier a person’s diet, the more likely they are to have good mental health. The opposite is true too!
So what foods give the brain the nutrients it needs for good mental health and wellbeing? The same types of foods that are great for your physical health:
lots of different vegetables and fruit.
a wide variety of whole grains, nuts, seeds and legumes.
some occasional oily fish, lean meat and dairy products.
We all know that having a good night’s sleep is one of the best things we can do to recharge our batteries.
Are you getting enough sleep? Take this quiz and see.
Check out our Recharge Your Batteries webpage for some expert tips to help you sleep smarter (please don’t do this tonight, on your smartphone, while lying in bed!)
