THE BIG RELAUNCH SUNDAY 21st OCT

A spectacular day relaunching JMI and celebrating the
inspirational world of Jewish music. We have 3 wonderful events:

THE KLEZMATICS WITH SPECIAL GUEST SOPHIE SOLOMON

The Grammy-winning Klezmatics fly in from New York City for their first UK gig in nearly a decade, with London’s own violin superstar Sophie Solomon lending her electric energy to the mix. Expect a night of high octane klezmer and beautiful Yiddish song, a concert steeped in Jewish spiritualism and Eastern European tradition combined with more eclectic musical influences such as gospel, punk, and Arab, African, and Balkan rhythms

The Great Big Story Adventure presents ‘Jonah and the Wailers’

A new programme of of interactive musical storytelling for 4-8 year olds lead and performed by Saul Eisenberg’s Junk Orchestra and storyteller Vanessa Wolf with special guest Susi Evans on clarinet. Join us as we whirlwind around the world telling enchanting stories of new and old, yesterday and tomorrow.

Musical East End Walk
In a special East End walk with music devised for the JMI, local historian and East End aficionado David Rosenberg will tell the story of the area from 1880 to the First World War, explaining the impact of Jewish immigration on all aspects of life. The walk will take in landmark buildings such as the Whitechapel Art Gallery, the Rothschild Buildings, the Workers Circle, the first Yiddish workers co-op and the first Yiddish theatre and guest musicians Dave Shulman and Zachary Gvirtzman will pop up en route to perform pieces by local East End boys such as Ronnie Scott, Solomon Schwartz, Joe Loss and Bud Flanagan. Finish off the walk in style by stopping off at the Brick Lane Beigel Bake for an old-time taste of the East End.
