Kneemail from Saint James Church

11 June 2021 AD

I had the chance to visit Amy's new school yesterday, and when I returned to my truck the thermometer told me the interior temperature had spiked to 98 degrees.  I guess that means summer has officially unofficially arrived!

Summer is a time for travel and a period of quiet in the life of the church.  Many of us will escape the heat and humidity for the beach, the lake, or the mountains.  Whatever your summer plans include, I encourage you to take time to play this summer.  Recreation is essential for both our physical and spiritual health.  This is especially true after the limits of last summer.

Amy and I will be traveling during July to both the mountains and the beach in rural Greece.  For me the majority of our time away will be spent writing the second, and hopefully the third, chapters of my dissertation.  We were able to rent a small apartment in the city where the bishop/theologian whose work I am researching is resident.  At this time I plan on several interviews and have access to his papers.  I also find a change of scenery helps to focus my mind for the writing process.  It may sound strange, but that time of writing is quite refreshing and energizing.  Of course it will not be all work.  There will be plenty of time for recreation.

Thanks to our technology, however, to travel no longer means to be disconnected.  While I encourage you to attend a local church as you travel, remember to check in at home as often as you can.  We will be checking in via social media and participating in the life of our community as possible.  If you want to follow what we are up to, or discover if I am making any real progress, look me up on Facebook (David J. Halt).

Oh, and pray for me as I write.
