Kneemail from Saint James Church

April 24, AD 2019

FROM THE RECTOR:
Dear Parishioners and Friends of St James’,

My sincere thanks to all who made our celebration of the Triduum and Easter Day such a wonderful experience.  I am particularly thankful for DeMita Torrans, Tracy Jones and their helpers, who made the Vigil reception such a success.  Many others, in many ways, gave of their time and energy to the Queen of Feasts, and I am thankful.

The sometime Bishop of Durham, N.T. Wright, tells the story of the Soviet lecturer, who concluded his presentation by saying, “Therefore, there is no God, Jesus Christ never existed, there is no such thing as a Holy Spirit.”  He was about to sit down, when an old priest stood up.  “May I say two words?”  (It’s three in English, but he was of course speaking Russian.)  The Lecturer, disdainfully, nodded.  The priest shouted out over the crowd, “Christ is risen!”  Back came the roar of the people, “He is risen indeed!”  Russians had been saying those words every Easter for a thousand years—why should they stop now?

If you were away from Texarkana at Easter, no worries!  We keep the feast for the entire forty days of Eastertide—lots of chances to sing the great Easter hymns, and lots of opportunity to cry out, “He is risen indeed!”

Rev. Douglas Anderson, Rector
