Kneemail from Saint James Church

August 21, AD 2019

FROM THE RECTOR:

Dear Parishioners and Friends of St James’,

Homecoming Sunday.  This coming Sunday is the 143rd anniversary of the founding of the parish.  We observe this as our annual Homecoming Sunday, when we welcome everyone back from their summer pursuits.  The Choir will also be back in their places, and we will have a string quartet at the 10am Mass.

You can help with lunch.  Lunch will follow the 10am Mass in the Great Hall.  The parish will provide the meat and beverages, but we need your help with the side dishes.  If your last name beings A-F: please bring a salad, G-M: a potato or pasta dish, N-Z: a vegetable dish.  If you’d like to see what others are bringing you can visit https://www.signupgenius.com/go/60b0945aaab2eaa8-homecoming or to let us know what you intend to bring!

Window auction.  We will also auction off a chapel window at Lunch.  This window was replaced recently, and I thought it might be a good idea (and a good fundraiser!) if we allowed parishioners and others to bid on the old window.  It might make a wonderful addition to your home.

Personal news.  I also need to share a bit of personal news.  Maddie and Emma will be attending their senior year of high school (this year) in Canada.  There are several good reasons why my family has made this decision, and I will be glad to share those with you in a personal conversation if you are curious.  And just to quell the rumor mill: I have no intention of going with them to Canada!  They will of course be back in Texarkana during their breaks and holidays.  Please remember them and us in your prayers as we make this transition.

Fr Daly and I look forward to being with you on Sunday as we begin another year of mission and ministry at St James’.

Yours with every blessing,

Rev. Douglas Anderson, Rector
