Player Profile: Tisha Waki

Rugby nickname(s): TW, Trisha Walker, Wakitalkie, Sneaky Asian
Hometown: Covina, CA
Position(s): Scrumhalf, Center, Wing
All Blue since: 2007
Occupation: Analytical chemist

Tisha started playing rugby during her senior year at Cal, after one of her friends asked Tisha to join the team with her.  Back then, the Cal team used to share their practice field with the All Blues, so for Tisha and her friends who wanted to continue with rugby, playing with the All Blues was "the next logical thing."

When asked what is the best part about being part of the All Blues, Tisha says "friendship[s] with teammates, the history, [and] the challenge presented to me by my teammates." One of her favorite moments include winning Ruckstar Sevens in Dallas, and getting Irene to drive them to McDonalds afterwards.

Besides rugby, Tisha's other passion is playing bingo.  She started playing at the New Parkway when rugby was not in season.  She once went with her family to Vegas, where "basically all the gambling [she] did was at a bingo parlor with [her] grandma" who she described as being really into the "intense" Vegas bingo parlor scene.

Tisha, as some of us might know, also has an alter ego named "Trisha Walker" who sometimes appears during a rugby party. The name was apparently the result of a mispronunciation at the doctor's office.  To read more about this story, visit the blog section on our website!

The monthly Player Profile series aims to highlight an All Blue currently playing during each of the 3 seasons.  Curious about someone in our community? Let us know who you'd like featured!

Fundraiser with Crooked City Cider a Success!

by Kat Molitor
The All Blues had their first joint fundraiser with Crooked City Cider to help raise money for NorCal youth rugby. It was a giant success with over 10 ciders on the lineup, including Hemly Cider, made by an All Blues alum! We raised almost $1,000 for NorCal youth rugby. Dana Bushouse, owner and head fermenter at Crooked City, is excited to partner up for more rugby events and fundraisers. If you missed out on this one, look for updates about a fundraiser for the All Blues in June as we celebrate our Olympians in Rio.

Can't wait to know more about cider and Crooked City's connection to the rugby community?  Come to Cider Fridays at 477 25th St. in Oakland!  The tasting room opens at 6 PM.  Yard jenga, corn hole, and board games galore available!

Amanda Micheli, a former All Blue, is the director of a film called HAVEABABY that will be having its West Coast premiere on the heels of its debut earlier this April at the Tribeca Film Festival in New York. The documentary follows several aspiring parents struggling with infertility and treatment costs, and a controversial IVF contest that gives them hope.

The San Francisco screening will be at the Victoria Theater in the Mission District on Friday, April 29th at 6 PM.  There are two additional screenings on Sunday 5/1 and Tuesday 5/3.  She will be in person at all of them for a Q&A after the show.
