On January 11, 2017, the Northern California Record published an article about Blue Shield of California's decision to expand hepatitis C treatment coverage in response to a class action suit. NVHR's Executive Director Ryan Clary was quoted extensively in the article, reiterating our position that everyone with hepatitis C should have access to lifesaving treatment. NVHR Leads Sign On Letter to Protect Our Care
NVHR's Public Policy Director Elizabeth Paukstis has been leading our efforts to oppose repeal of the Affordable Care Act without implementing replacement legislation guaranteeing affordable, meaningful coverage for all, including the millions of people living with hepatitis B and hepatitis C in the United States. On January 11, 2017, we sent a letter signed by 54 organizations to all U.S. Senators calling for these protections and opposing harmful changes to Medicaid, such as block grants or a per capita structure. NVHR Announces Second Year of Mini-Grant Program
NVHR is pleased to announce we will continue our Hepatitis C Program Booster Mini-Grant Program in 2017. Awards of $10,000 will be available to NVHR member organizations working on hepatitis C education, screening, and linkage to care activities. Our three 2016 grantees are finishing their programs and will highlight successes for NVHR members and partners on an upcoming webinar. 2017-2020 Viral Hepatitis Action Plan Released
On January 19, 2017, the Office of HIV/AIDS and Infectious Disease Policy, Department of Health and Human Services, released the 2017 - 2020 National Viral Hepatitis Action Plan. The updated Action Plan is the nation's roadmap for addressing viral hepatitis in the United States and offers new and improved strategies for prevention, care, and treatment. OHAIDP will hold a webinar on the Action Plan on February 15, 2017. NVHR will send details about the webinar when they are available.
Michael Ninburg Named President of World Hepatitis Alliance
NVHR congratulates our former Chair Michael Ninburg on being named the next President of the World Hepatitis Alliance for the period 2018-2019. Michael will replace Charles Gore, who has served as WHA President for the past ten years. We look forward to Michael's leadership in the global fight to eliminate hepatitis B and C.
