|World Hepatitis Day
World Hepatitis Day, July 28, 2015, provides an opportunity to reflect on the devastating impact of hepatitis B and C around the globe. 400 million people worldwide are living with hepatitis B and/or C and each year. 1.4 million people die from these preventable and treatable diseases. NVHR encourages everyone to be a part of this day by participating in one or more of the campaigns organized by the World Hepatitis Alliance. By working together, we can eliminate hepatitis B and C and save 4,000 lives a day.

New Syringe Access Funding Fact Sheet
The Coalition for Syringe Access has released a new fact sheet outlining why Congress should lift the ban on federal funding for syringe access programs and to allow states the freedom to decide if such programs would be effective in their communities. NVHR serves on the steering committee of this coalition and will continue to prioritize syringe access in our federal advocacy. You are encouraged to use this fact sheet when communicating with your elected representatives.
Hepatitis C Treatment Access Advocacy Tools
On June 9, 2015, the Presidential Advisory Council on HIV/AIDS (PACHA) sent a letter to President Obama urging the federal government to take specific action to address discriminatory hepatitis C treatment access restrictions placed by many public and private payers. The PACHA letter was approved at the Council's recent meeting in Atlanta, following presentations by hepatitis C experts and advocates, including NVHR. You can read PACHA's letter here and NVHR's presentation here.
On June 30, 2015, a new report was released showing significant and widespread restrictions to hepatitis C treatment access by state Medicaids. The study, authored by Brown University Department of Medicine, Rhode Island's Miriam Hospital, Harvard Law School's Center for Health Law and Policy Innovation, Treatment Action Group, and Kirby Institute of Australia, provides details on coverage restrictions and outlines policy changes to improve access to lifesaving hepatitis C treatment. You can read the full report here.
