National Hepatitis Testing Day: May 19, 2016
On May 19, 2016, National Hepatitis Testing Day, NVHR co-sponsored a Testing Day event, which was organized and led by our partner, Caring Ambassadors. Free hepatitis B and C testing and linkage to care were offered at three locations in Washington, D.C. The primary testing was in front of the Department of Health and Human Services’ Humphrey Building.
NVHR Hosts Congressional Briefing with the American Journal of Managed Care
On May 23, 2016, NVHR and the American Journal for Managed Care hosted a Congressional briefing titled Ending Hepatitis C: The Value of Curing the Nation’s Deadliest Blood-Borne Disease – Opportunities & Challenges for Patients, Providers & Patients.
The briefing included a panel of authors from the AJMC Special Edition on Hepatitis C, which included a commentary from NVHR Executive Director Ryan Clary.
The panel discussed new ground-breaking research on access to curative therapies, impact of high out-of-pocket cost sharing on patients, and the public health and economic value of curing patients now.
HepCure Webinar: Raising Hepatitis C Awareness: It Takes a Community
On May 10, NVHR Executive Director Ryan Clary spoke on a webinar hosted by HepMag titled Raising Hepatitis C Awareness: It Takes a Community. Clary was joined by Corinna Dan, from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, and Lucinda Porter, from HEP Magazine.
Together, they discussed their experience as hepatitis advocates in their organizations and communities and reiterated the call to action surrounding hepatitis awareness. If you missed the webinar, you can listen to it here.
NVHR Conference Call: National Strategy for the Elimination of Hepatitis B & C
On May 16, NVHR hosted a special conference call featuring members of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine's Health and Medicine Division (formerly known as the Institute of Medicine) Committee on a National Strategy for the Elimination of Hepatitis B & C. Committee members provided insight from their Phase One report, which explored barriers that must be overcome to achieve elimination of hepatitis B and C in the U.S., and gave an overview of the Phase Two process.
The second report will outline targets, recommendations, and strategies to eliminate hepatitis B and C in the U.S. It will be released in early 2017. To listen to the recording, click here.

June 15 Twitter Chat: Partner Highlights from Hepatitis Awareness Month
Join Hep B United, NVHR, CDC’s Division of Viral Hepatitis, and the Hepatitis B Foundation for a Twitter #HepChat on Wednesday, June 15 at 2 pm Eastern. The chat will highlight Hepatitis Awareness Month outreach events and allow hepatitis B and C partner organizations to share best practices, challenges, and lessons learned from their efforts.
