NVHR Welcomes New Public Policy Director: Elizabeth Paukstis
NVHR is proud to welcome Elizabeth Paukstis, M.A., J.D., as our new Public Policy Director. Prior to joining NVHR, Elizabeth worked at the ACLU National Prison Project to improve access to medical and mental health care for people who are incarcerated. Elizabeth’s background includes extensive experience in health and civil rights public policy and research, including directing the Women’s Health Caucus at the Texas State Legislature and authoring a research paper on hepatitis C treatment access in prisons. Elizabeth has also worked in the Office of Senator Richard Durbin, the U.S. Department of Justice’s Civil Rights Division, and the American Foundation for AIDS Research. Please join us in welcoming Elizabeth to the NVHR team!

NVHR Participates in Project Inform's Think Tank on Supervised Injection Facilities
On September 27-28, 2016, Project Inform hosted a think tank on supervised injection facilities (SIFs) in Baltimore, MD. NVHR’s Program and Policy Associate, Emily Stets, participated in the think tank, which served as a brainstorming session for organizations working in drug policy, harm reduction, viral hepatitis, and HIV to discuss partnerships to further support SIF campaigns and advocacy work across the country.
NVHR supports drug policy initiatives aimed at increasing access to comprehensive harm reduction services and prevention of hepatitis B and C through addressing the opioid and overdose epidemic. To read more about our drug user health policy work, click here.

NVHR Executive Director Speaks at Annual Viral Hepatitis Summit
On October 19, 2016, San Francisco Hep B Free and the American Liver Foundation co-hosted the 2nd Annual Viral Hepatitis Summit in San Francisco, themed “Elimination: Preparing For A Cure.” NVHR’s Executive Director, Ryan Clary, spoke on a panel focused on building a national voice for viral hepatitis awareness and prevention. Other panelists explored lessons learned from the hepatitis C cure, preparing for the hepatitis B cure, and viral hepatitis advocacy with legislators.

NVHR December Policy Update Call
On December 1, 2016, 2 pm ET, NVHR will hold a federal policy update call for our members. The call will cover updates from 2016 as well as an overview of priorities for 2017. Call-in information will be provided soon through NVHR’s listserv. If you are not on the listserv, click here to join.
