Santos Alexis Dominguez is not the typical coffee farmer. She’s female, which is exceedingly rare in the industry. But she also inherited a nearly wild, overgrown coffee farm after the passing of her husband, having no previous agricultural experience.
Santos Alexis Dominguez, or "Alexi"
With some substantial assistance from the Paz family of Beneficio San Vicente, Alexi has been able to turn a hike-in only, bountifully forested piece of land into one of our absolute favorite offerings of the season.
The parabolic drying tables at Las Manos
But the journey wasn’t without substantial conflict. In addition to the sharp learning curve and unforgiving, remote terrain, Alexi had to deal with threats from disgruntled family members of her late husband. This culminated in her raised parabolic drying facility being set ablaze late at night by would-be saboteurs who did not want her to succeed.

Ritual provided funds to build the first drying facility, as well as the newly rebuilt one. After a couple of tough seasons, the coffee of Las Manos is once again amongst the best we’ve ever tasted from the region, and we've continued to buy the entire Las Manos crop year after year.
