We are proud to highlight the successes of our students and teaching staff. This month our students' projects have been selected for several prestigious awards; Dr. Carmen Mendoza participated as a speaker at RIBA and we also have a great interview with Nasr Chamma from Lebanon. Nasr Chamma

Interview with Nasr Chamma

Born in Lebanon in 1988, Nasr Chamma is an architect, humanitarian activist and urban planner who has obtained two master degrees, one of which is our Master of International Cooperation in Sustainable Emergency Architecture. He currently resides in Beirut, and is involved in various research projects related to Syrian refugees and Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon. These projects support his PhD research in the field of architecture at UIC Barcelona.

Final Degree Project

This project highlights three important aspects in the Social Projection of Architecture: the social dimension of the content, the social awareness of students and the social projection of architecture. Therefore, the jury underlined the proposal of promoting the social transfer of architecture in broader social environments that are open to society.

Composition II

Lake Shore Drive Apartments (Chicago) by Mies van der Rohe: a key exercise for our students to learn something that is essential for an architect, to stake out at scale 1:1 a plan from a drawing at scale 1:100 or similar. It is something unique, to approach the experience of full-scale spaces, through paradigmatic works of architecture.

Students from UIC Barcelona School of Architecture received an award at the XIII BEAU Architecture and Urbanism Awards

For the third consecutive year, students from UIC Barcelona School of Architecture have been awarded at the XIII BEAU Architecture and Urbanism Awards. This time they were awarded under the category of Disclosure at the XII BEAU Research Awards, based on a double exhibition project entitled “Examinarse en el Museo Nacional de Arte de Catalunya” (Sitting an Exam in the Catalan National Art Museum).

The “Floating Water” project, created by students from the UIC Barcelona School of Architecture won first prize of the “Urban Plunge: New designs for natural swimming in our cities” interuniversity competition.

New online course: “Human Settlements in Emergency Situations”, in association with the Red Cross

UIC Barcelona School of Architecture and the International Federation Red Cross and Red Crescent Society (IFRC) will jointly teach a new online course in Spanish entitled “Human Settlements in Emergency Situations”, with the aim of professionalising the agents involved in the humanitarian aid sector.
